    I'm 50 years old, and this is the first time I've ever worked with wood. Wow, I was missing out. This is SATISFYING. The build is coming along great! More updates tomorrow.

    The Kia Soul adventure build is finished! The final touch was wrapping it with some carpeting.

    What I love about this setup is the drop screws connecting the two platforms. It's a piece of cake to just lift them out and move the top platform to the back, allowing me to use the back seats.

    Today I'll be trimming the "mattress" to size - a 1.5 inch piece of gel infused memory foam, and a 3 inch piece of high density foam.

    After that: ADVENTURE!

      @killyourfm when I had my Citroen C2 GT I always had a vague idea to take the passenger seat out and build a bed (the whole interior was barely long enough for me to lie down in) but instead I just ended up sleeping in the driver's seat when I was off adventuring

        @killyourfm very nice! That's what I got a Subaru for. But I still need to get that setup .

          @TTimo *Nods* Jealous of your Subaru, but grateful for my Kia 🙂 I'm 5'7" so thankfully I JUST fit in a comfortable sleeping position. Someone tall, though, could easily fit in a diagonal position with this "3 quadrant" build which is why I like it. Some decent storage underneath the platforms, too!

            @killyourfm This is very cool. We have a non-build bed system for our '17 Pacifica (stow and go seats) using folding cots - the van floor is so uncomfortable but no tracks.

              @potatosandwichjen Yea, I tried the bare floor on my Kia but the slope when back seats are down was a bit too much! I've heard the Pacifica is an awesome adventure van.

                @killyourfm Are you planning on staying in the muricas only or?

                If you somehow find your way to Finland, come say hi 😄

                @k Hi! You know, I lived in Croatia between 2017 and 2023, and saw many amazing parts of Europe, but I never made it there -- even though at one point I had entertained MOVING to Finland.

                I would very much like to experience Europe again through this new lens of adventuring and hiking, though.

                I can't promise I'll get there, but I can tell you that my intention is high. The people, the country, and its nature all seem outstanding from a distance.

                  @killyourfm

                  You have a design sketch? I want to do this with our old Honda Odyssey and would love to see what your approach is.

                  @chieroglyph Sadly I don't. Aside from basic measurements and deciding on materials, it was a bit of a "build as I go" process. BUT I will absolutely try to do a short video and blog post going into more detail.
