    Today I took a nap with the earplugs I recently bought. I slept for three hours in the most complete and beautiful silence. These things are a one-way trip; I didn't want to take them off. It was a great relief for my brain and greatly reduced my tinnitus.

      @cesarpose I wasnt aware of the potential connection of autism with tinnitus. That makes sense. Thank you, I will have a look on earplugs as well

        @rhizomancer
        Well, in addition to autism, I have other conditions, autoimmune diseases, such as progressive neurogenic hearing loss. I can hear, but I don't understand what I hear very well, and that's compounded by auditory hypersensitivity. Being in silence is very important to me.

          @cesarpose I see. Well, hope those earplugs keep helping you 🙂 and thank you again, I've had tinnitus for a while and never made the connection there.

            @cesarpose could you clarify how it reduces your tinnitus? If you wear earplugs and things are more silent, wouldn't that make you hear nothing but the tinnitus? I'm curious because I've never tried sleeping with earplugs before

              @anonymas
              Tinnitus is complex; it doesn't originate in the ear but in the brain. One cause can be deafness, as losing hearing makes tinnitus more noticeable. However, any inflammation affecting the brain, such as that seen in autoimmune diseases, can also increase tinnitus. It can also be exacerbated by auditory stress, such as listening to loud music or being in very noisy environments for extended periods, or by being hypersensitive, like many autistic people (and like me).
              I have all those problems at once. So when it's exacerbated by an antibody outbreak, stress, or a noisy environment, silence helps reduce that aspect of the tinnitus. At home, I have neighbors who make a lot of noise and have dogs that bark all day long, and sometimes that keeps me from sleeping or concentrating on anything.
