    🚨 BREAKING 🚨

    The UK Information Commissioner's Office and Ofcom are pushing for tech companies to strengthen age checks.

    It's disastrous that the ICO wants to somehow 'protect children’s data' by compelling 13-18 year olds to use poorly regulated digital identification products that could put their biometric data at risk.

      "We need strong regulation of the age verification industry so that Internet users' privacy and security is better protected. Until we have that, the ICO should stop pushing digital identification.”

        @openrightsgroup

        every time you post an alarmist response to proposed legislation you are admitting to having failed in your 20 year mission to protect digital rights in the uk.

        You should be ahead of this, it shouldn’t get to this point.

        You didn’t start last week.

        If you can’t nip these things early what exactly is the money used for?

            @tj @openrightsgroup
            👏👏👏

            It's easy to find reasons not to do something, or to smear the overused "protect the kids" justification.

            But there are very real online harms, to people of all ages and society as a whole. The public demand for action is growing.

            So, we need solutions. And without groups like Open Rights offering them, governments will naturally look to techbros.

            As a former boss used to say, "if you don't come with a better solution, you're just complaining".
