OK, so let's say me and some friends started a tech company/consultancy that refused to use "AI", would this encourage you choose us over others?

@requiem Where do I apply?

Not only would I want to hire you, I suspect that you'd be flooded by people who want to work for you as well.
Interesting side note, the replies provided a bonanza of bozos to block.

Absolutely.

@requiem No-brainer for me. (Voted yes.)

@14mission Oh I agree that the term "AI" is the worst term ever. But I feel like "they" ruined the term so I used it only in the "ruined" sense of gargantuan Markov text generator thingy. Things like pattern recognition using neural networks is what I grew up with and I still think it has purpose. Alas even a plain old neural network needs to never be in direct control of an insulin pump or the rudder on a plane. Never. @requiem
@phf @14mission @requiem I don‘t get it. What have LLMs ruined? Traditional symbolic AI was in no way more AI than the currently trending AI flavor. Expert systems had/have their use. Classic NNs had/have their use. LLMs had/have their use. What exactly is the difference in your opinion (other than nobody pumped even a fraction of the money into expert systems than now into LLMs)

@requiem You can market yourself as “boutique consulting for software craftsmanship”
I feel like there are people willing to pay a premium for the quality of that over the mediocrity of AI generated code

@requiem From my experience, most people that want something built don't care about these details. If the software works, they don't care. If someone can do the same job with same guarantees but half the price, people will choose them.
The responses on fediverse will be very biased for this poll. If you seriously want to start such a business, I'll highly recommend doing some research from non-tech / business oriented people.

@requiem I'm not in any position to hire a tech consultancy, but especially for open source projects I would require it so that the project doesn't get IP contaminated

Yeah, that's kind of why I decided to stop making my own AI/bots.
Thatband the old roomates and chat rooms stealing my accounts to make scammer ones!

@requiem yes and can I come work for you

The best place to start to catch the eye of investors is to use proper English. So, even though it is casual here in Mastodon and not formal, "me and some friends started a tech company" does not work for me. In other words, I got a red flag before even getting to the AI variable. With that said, I am not in your poll tally. Cheers.
@requiem @SteveThompson it's a thought experiment not an actual pitch for funding steve

@requiem
I would choose you, but I'm not a company executive
Maybe market it with some "no buzzwords; no bs" tagline or something.
@Linux_in_a_Bit @requiem nbjs - no bullshit just software. (Apologies to Erik Aanderaa)

Thank-you to everyone who participated, I never thought so many people would respond and the results are a lot more lopsided than I expected.
I'm going to be writing a blog post about this soon with more details about what's next.

@requiem I might suggest the results here are selection bias

@requiem if you are thinking of a business plan to implement this I would wonder how many of the voters are in a position to approve a vendor and the $$$?
