Being a true man of the world, I have had many chip butties in my time.
FYI, if needed, a chip butty is chips (ie french fries, NOT crisps) sandwiched between bread slices or in a bap/bun. Arguably it should be buttered, but we will ignore that for the purposes of the following poll:

Non-UK folks may see references to names for bread that may need explaining. There are many local / regional names for a bead roll and many styles too, these can include, but are not limited to: rolls, buns, baps, barms, barm cakes, cobs, batch and stotties. Any can be used for a chip butty. Anything from two slices of mass produced white sliced loaf, fancy artisan sourdough, soft flour dusted bap or crusty bread roll. Chips, between two bits of buttered bread equals a chip butty.@Nickiquote Chip butties are usually bought in Fish and Chips shops or "greasy spoon" cafés the latter offering embellishments like tomato sauce, brown sauce, perhaps English mustard or a fried egg. There is also the chip pitta, chips in a pitta bread often available from your local kebab shop.

@ambientspace @Nickiquote That does sound tasty, but is much more high-brow than a chip barm. Cheap white bread (sliced or roll/barm), chips, salt and vinegar, sauce if you're nasty. For a bit of extra crunch you can get scraps on there too - the little bits of batter that have fallen to the bottom of the heated display unit in the chippy.
@bigvimto as an americanist (sorry) can I assume the 'nasty' sauce is HP or a clone?

@Nickiquote I haven't, but I have had a bacon butty! Visiting family in the UK, we were on a highway and saw banners advertising them for something ridiculous like £1 at the next rest area. Nothing in the name suggested food to our American ears
Our driver felt this ignorance had to be rectified, and so we ended up with a sack of bacon butties and everybody got one and we ate them standing up outside the car, butter dripping down our hands. One of the most decadent things I've ever eaten. -

@Nickiquote "No - rest of world" (Aotearoa NZ) here, but I did used to make myself leftover-mashed-potato sandwiches for my school lunches from time to time when I was a kid. We didn't get deep-fried takeaways much.

I will add crisps to a sandwich that has a soft filling, like tuna salad. It gives it that perfect mix of textures.

@Jorsh Back in my day you could, as a treat, order a school lunch. (Ordinarily everyone packed their own.) In addition to the classic tinned-spaghetti pizza, the options for sandwiches were either:
1) cheese and pineapple; or
2) vegemite and chips (crisps)Modern Healthy School Lunch advocates would have absolute kittens but whatever, they were fantastic.
I don't think I've had a chip butty but I definitely would, given the opportunity.

Oh, yeah, and there are fries (sorry, sorry, "chips") in French tacos*, too.
*French tacos are not tacos, although they are called that in French. Meat (originally donair), cheese sauce, and chips wrapped in a flour tortilla like a burrito, then press-grilled like panini.

The place we went to in Paris (a chain called Otacos) offerred both fake meat and falafel as "meat" options.
