@ChrisMayLA6 I’d also like to point out that unlike Jimmy, migrants in the U.K. overwhelmingly work and pay their taxes, yet somehow we’re the problem and he’s not.

@ChrisMayLA6 take away his knighthood and give it to a random hospital porter or nurse from abroad instead, they deserve it more than him.

The rich alway see one rule for them & another rule for the rest of us.

Monaco-based migrant Jim Ratcliffe complains about immigrants in the UK, while himself being an immigrant in Monaco.

But that's different because he's rich & entitled, and the migrants in Britain are just normal folk trying to survive & thus merely a problem to be resolved.

Of course, its just the usual hypocrisy of the wealthy amplified by the complicit media.

Scapegoating is, in my view, many things, not least a manipulation used in domination systems to create division and maintain hierarchies. It stems from ignorance.

Also, the added hypocrisy of someone who owns a football club, when most big football clubs have players from all over the world. No immigration? Fine. But all Manchester United players have to be from Manchester, and you can't just buy in good ones from elsewhere.

@ChrisMayLA6 Which is why we need urgently to reduce - and if possible eliminate - the undue influence wielded by entitled rich bigots over the #uk economic and political system!

@ChrisMayLA6 Some groups of Man Utd fans are very angry with him and have called him out on these comments. It seems to me that he’s about to destroy the following of the club he’s invested in, which is a very bad business move. Lots of the team players are from other countries, as are lots of MU fans.

@ChrisMayLA6 add to that he's also been getting UK government subsidies for his INEOS chemicals company, while investing that money abroad and closing Grangemouth refinery in Scotland.

I gather he was also touting for government help to redevelop Old Trafford.

@ChrisMayLA6 When they say "migrants" they mean "non-whites" or groups they've considered insufficiently white.

If he was fined 50% of his worth, then the UK treasury would be significantly healthier.

But of course, we is wealthy so that won't happen.

It's the thing I find most bewildering about the tribalism of football support. If a team was all local players, I'd understand people being proud of it.

I’ve always thought that ’ex-pat’ should be reserved for workers on fixed-term contracts. As soon as you decide to stay long-term, you clearly become an immigrant.

@suearcher @ChrisMayLA6 The problem is that the ideal UK immigrant is someone who was trained in their trade in their home country, comes to the UK for all of their productive years, therefore pays tax and national insurance contributions in the UK during those years, but who then returns to their home country when they are no longer productive and/or may actually need to rely on any kind of social security safety net.

International footballers fit that profile perfectly.

@ChrisMayLA6 add to that he's also been getting UK government subsidies for his INEOS chemicals company, while investing that money abroad and closing Grangemouth refinery in Scotland.

I gather he was also touting for government help to redevelop Old Trafford.

@marjolica @ChrisMayLA6 and one of the 76% of people living in Monaco not born there. An immigrant in a much bigger proportion of that country.

There's a radical division among Brits in France between those of us that recognise we are immigrants, and the colonial-types that call themselves 'ex-pats'.

@GeofCox @ChrisMayLA6 I wonder, how long it'll take for people to feel just European, or even better, Global Citizen.

I’ve always thought that ’ex-pat’ should be reserved for workers on fixed-term contracts. As soon as you decide to stay long-term, you clearly become an immigrant.

Yes, there is a time and/or commitment aspect to it. 'Ex-pats' are definitely still very British, likely to return to the UK, less integrated in French society and generally more critical of French (or regional) culture.
