In 2024, we received an email from a Saanich constable about an account named Ms. Que Banh.
We were contacted by Saanich Police regarding a complaint made by another instance. The screenshots align with how posts present to mods and admins when they're reported to them, and given the time since this, and my knowledge of this situation, did not originate from our community.
To be clear: Mastodon Canada did not report this account to Saanich Police, nor did we ever have sufficient knowledge to refer it to a local police service. We simply suspended the account.
As the posts were extremely concerning and threatened lives, I cooperated with the police as the threat to burn down buildings was well beyond the Charter of Rights and Freedoms that we uphold as a community.
The complaint did not originate with our community or with me.
I have censored the screenshots to help protect the identity of Ms. Que Banh.
This is my final statement on this matter.

The only time that we have ever taken initiative and alerted local authorities is when someone was posting credible suicidal messages to mstdn.ca, reported to us by community members, and we were able to determine that they were posting from a provincial health authority's network, to which we reported the concern.
This was not at all the same person.
