#EnvironmentCanada is planning an update to their website. As anyone might guess, information density is down, contrast is down. Size is up from 350KB to 1.7MB. #enshittification
@hannorein Software was on a downward trend long before the rise of generative AI.

@hannorein @ottaross is there an announcement posted somewhere?
I'd like to get my feedback in early and accurately.

@hannorein It wasn't broken, but someone has to justify their job… I hope all the people who submitted feedback gave them a big fat nope.

@hannorein This! Why does nobody understand information density? Stop making reference presentation all white space and low info density.
@ottaross @hannorein If you want a really egregious example, check out the web design the OCDSB has imposed on all their schools (secondary, at least). Ugly, and ridiculous overuse of blank space.
(e.g. https://nepeanhs.ocdsb.ca/academics-landing)Every time I look at it, I think, “Someone paid for this??”

@MichaelPorter OCSB all do their own school websites from a template created at the board. I thought that the OCDSB having a government appointed supervisor was meant to get rid of the expenses that weren’t needed? /s @ottaross @hannorein

I could not fill out the survey because it required javascript. So I sent them a note about that in their web server logs : -)

The URL here is only a likeness of the actual one I used, doing this from memory to give you an idea of what I did.
