The poor have always given more to those in need, despite struggling themselves.

The poor have always given more to those in need, despite struggling themselves. That's been the case ever since money entered human society. It's even more so now, with wider social class divides.
The poor may not have much in finances. The poor are far richer in humanity than those with heaps of finances & no compassion for others with much lesser than.
There is no shame in being poor. Only a super sick society tries to shame poor folks without trying to help out.

Reminder for super religious that Jesus was a #Palestinian brown beggar. He was an OG antifascist/anticapitalist. #JesusWasPoor #SocialistJesus

"Doves should be free! And so should prescription meds and postsecondary education! You've turned the temple of parliament into a den of thieves!"

@markgrieveson Seriously, nothing pisses off bigoted religious exploiters like telling them that that Jesus was a brown Palestinian beggar, who was also big into socialism & not big on capitalism or injustices. I also tend to tell those types of religious bigots that if they tried to sit at a table with OG Socialist Jesus, he'd flip the table, if they didn't leave when asked to.
I don't care about upsetting inhumane bigots. I believe it's part of my duty if I encounter them in the public wilds & they're being their shitty selves.

I love listening to Ed Trevors. He’s an Anglican priest in Canada.. He were marked recently about, especially the evangelicals going on about in days..
A quote from Jesus, I think
I do not know you; depart from me.
It’s Matthew something something, but I think that was very much to the point

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @markgrieveson I adore some activist friends who are religious & call out bigots as heathens & enemies of humanity.

I'm atheist. But I do feel that religion's focus on charity and support of the underdog is good. Much of charity in Canada is religious based. Thus the focus is on community support, which is a left wing theme. So, when religion was more prominent back in the days of the CCF, we see that more people were within a community that 1.) Frowns upon selfishness, and 2.) Believes in an afterlife. This made movements for social change a bit easier back then.
Now the focus is on individualism. Reagan started this, aligning with and growing a tendency in some religious groups to focus on judgement of individuals. So we see a rightward shift in some religious groups.
There are still some leftists. For instance, Cheri DiNovo was a former Ontario NDP MPP, and now is a United Church of Canada minister and endorser of Avi Lewis.
