@PhoenixSerenity @GhostOnTheHalfShell I'm atheist. But I do feel that religion's focus on charity and support of the underdog is good. Much of charity in Canada is religious based. Thus the focus is on community support, which is a left wing theme. So, when religion was more prominent back in the days of the CCF, we see that more people were within a community that 1.) Frowns upon selfishness, and 2.) Believes in an afterlife. This made movements for social change a bit easier back then.Now the focus is on individualism. Reagan started this, aligning with and growing a tendency in some religious groups to focus on judgement of individuals. So we see a rightward shift in some religious groups.There are still some leftists. For instance, Cheri DiNovo was a former Ontario NDP MPP, and now is a United Church of Canada minister and endorser of Avi Lewis.
