Disturbing (to me): the new sign on a trail into a wilderness area excludes motorized vehicles, "other users welcome".

I hike and mountain bike, but I really don't want to see mountain bikes in a designated wilderness area. I wonder if the mixed messages here are indicative of a policy change at the USFS? If so, I don't like it.

@wanderinghermit The sign sure seems to open it to bikes, which seems to be redefining how wilderness areas work. I personally think bikes should be allowed anywhere horses are, since they don't turn trails into trenches full of pulverized manure. I've seen trails in the northern Rockies that are open to bikes on certain days of the week, which seems sensible to me, but I don't know anything about whether the laws have changed to make that possible.

@wanderinghermit It looks as if they have given up trying to control and exclude mountain bikers.
<Irony>But maybe it's just illegal immigrants riding around on mountain bikes, and #ICE is now so successful that there is no longer any danger</Irony>

@wanderinghermit Any trail "activist" could have added that no bikes sticker to the bottom of the post. Do you have other examples of official forest service stickers to compare it against?

It looks to me like the real thing, I've seen them at many other wilderness areas.
