#introduction

Hello everybody,
I'm a bit lost here, coming from "traditional" social platforms. I have no idea how this works and to top it all I'm also too shy to enter people's conversations.So let me introduce myself: I'm a Romanian artist, I paint in oil and acrylic. I am also a voracious reader, always on the lookout for new books. I enjoy most of all historical ones - fiction and non fiction, classic literature is my comfort food, yet I'll not refuse a good mystery or thriller.
@LitteRatty
You are gonna fit right in.
Follow lots of cool people straight away. Click thru on their follows to find other cool people and follow them too.
Follow too many people and trim back later.
Welcome. -

@LitteRatty hello and welcome! Lots of good advice in the thread! Following hashtags around subjects that interest you is a good way to find your people - # art # books # AmReading # history # bookstodon, and so on. Follow lots of tags and people to start with to populate your feed, you can always unfollow later. A top tip is to follow the marvellous @lisamelton, who will fill your timeline with a vast range of boosts. Hope you enjoy it here!
@mothninja Thank you so much for the recommendation.

@LitteRatty you may also want to look into installing the StreetPass extension for your browser: it's a thingie that lets you know when a web page has metadata that declares an associated Mastodon / Fediverse profile and keeps a list of all the profiles discovered like this, it's another way to find interesting accounts here

@LitteRatty Welcome! I am the owner/admin here on Bookstodon. If you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out. Even if it looks like I am not around, I get notifications and am usually able to respond very quickly. I invite you to check out https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-basic-tips/ for tips on how to use Mastodon. The biggest tip I can give you is to use hashtags on every post and make sure to engage. Fedi Tips will give you all the best advice on moving forward. Happy to have you! Enjoy!
@CindySue thank you for welcoming me, looking forward to being an active member of the community.

Welcome!There's a very active arts community on here, and lots of writers.
Highly recommend you explore and check out hashtags. Following hashtags is a great way to find people to follow, and to get your posts in front of other people
# AmReading is a good place to see what other readers are enjoying and share your own reads.

Welcome LitteRatty

@LitteRatty welcome and aloha from Hawai'i Island
My book recommendation is: "morality play" by Barry Unsworth. I don't read a lot of historical fiction, but I really loved this book.
@mk30 hello, nice to meet you! I added "Morality Play" to my to-read list, thank you!

@LitteRatty hi, welcome!
Would love tot see your art
Concerning books, have you read those by Guy Gavriel Kay? Fantasy based on history, I think they're great.@suzannespirit Hello, nice to meet you! I'm still trying to figure out the community rules, so I don't know yet if it posting some art from time to time would be acceptable. Anyway, I invite you to visit my website
https://manufineart.com/ , I'm honored and delighted by your interest.I haven't read any of Guy Gabriel Kay's books, but I'm adding his name on my list and will research him in a moment.

Welcome to the Fedi! One way to meet people is browsing the #introduction tag and spreading the welcome love to other new folks. That helped me overcome my shyness here. -
@Christo_459 thank you, will explore that.
-
@HollieK72 thank you, it's encouraging to see that others had the same experience (and survived

Bookworms are especially welcome. And don't worry, most of us don't bite. My advice is to find conversations you're interested in and boost/favourite the posts you like as a way of getting yourself known. Then, in your own time, start to comment on the posts. Before long you'll be floating your own conversations.
An introduction is good, but it's like knocking on the door and loitering on the doorstep. The thing is to come on in.
@riggbeck thank you, that's exactly how I feel at this moment, like knocking at the door. Looking forward to entering the house .

@LitteRatty welcome! Hereโs a list of books if you run out. https://docs.skunkwerks.at/s/kqKw9D__3 i culled this from many sources and am slowly working my way through them
@dch oh, wow, thank you so much!
-
@dropbear many thanks for the kind welcome!

@LitteRatty
In addition to the advice given, I'd say follow people who interact with you, and then interact with them.
See who else they interact with and see if you want to follow them too.When you are following a larger number of people, you can start to drop the ones that have no real interest to you, if you want.
The main thing is to interact. People will follow you back if the interactions are good and of interest to them. It is much more like socialising at a party.
@Maker_of_Things thank you, I'll do my best to fit in (I'm terrible at parties, haha)
