Anyone want to set a new record?

No! The original answer was WRONG! @zergar found a further one, from Kemijärvi to Lagos. I was not even aware there were still trains to Kemijärvi!

Finland gains direct rail link to Europe this summer

Transport Minister Lulu Ranne (Finns) says a long-delayed cross-border train to Sweden should begin rolling this summer, allowing passengers to ride the rails from continental Europe to Finnish Lapland, or overland between the Finnish and Swedish capitals.

The challenge of course is: Germany 🙂

You could plan the whole thing and then "Personen im Gleis" knocks you off at Hildesheim and you're then left stranded for 24 hours at Badajoz

@jon the development in Germany is incredible.

I Traveled from Tampere to Freiburg just a few years ago without a hitch (required a short walk from Finland to Haparanda station, that's better now).

And recently a trip to Belgium required two sleepovers and a hitchike because of missed connections.

@jon as VR still runs rovaniemi -> kemijärvi once a day, isn't that even a thad (~80km) farther? (Although it might take a day longer, as you have to connect 2 night trains via kemi)

@richlv It's not. That's the point! You take the train from Tornio to Haparanda.

@jon I may have to put together a plan. This sounds kind of fun.
