M Geddes Gengras - Light Pipe

double album of some really quality, pensive pieces. variety in there tho, deeper than it might seem for sure.

Light Pipe, by M Geddes Gengras

Light Pipe by M Geddes Gengras, released 12 October 2018 1. Mirror 2. Subway 3. Nave 4. Chancel 5. Water Study 6. Cherise 7. Irwin 8. Pinnacle 9. Vulture 10. Cherise (return) To summarise the work of M.Geddes Gengras is no easy feat. A tireless artist, whose output sprawls across experimental dub, ambient and low key techno, his wide ranging discography reveals a curiosity that serves as a primary driver for creation. Light Pipe is arguably Gengras’ most ambitious recording project to date. His 10th solo recording is an epic undertaking, spanning over two and a half hours. Across the two CD set, Gengras charts out evocative landscapes of texture and harmony. Working with very simple elements, he creates a tidal like sound space, where sound layers flow seamlessly, rising and falling with an ever-changing sense of motion. These pieces were written across several years responding the site specific performance situations. These include a durational performance in Los Angeles at The Getty Center’s Irwin Garden, a special performance alongside the banks of the LA river and performances at the El Rey & Regent Theatres, Each disc in this edition focuses specifically on either interior and exterior spaces; the indoor and the outdoor, reflecting the specific conditions of how sound operates in these types of situations. Light Pipe is a long-form work within which multiple states of listening are possible and moreover encouraged. It’s music that is ideal for deep immersion; for sleep, for flying and for any creative states within which a sense of expansion is needed.

@dequalsrxt i can't take any credit really...INNERSPACE Prod that released it is a sublabel of 1834 which i released an album with some years ago, so i'm signed up on the mailing lists & all.

some nice stuff on both, well worth checking out if you've not yet.

Lawrence English - A Colour for Autumn

1st listen, this just got announced a few hours ago...1st track is nice & not dark exactly but...there's space for something deep in there. we'll see how the rest of it goes.

A Colour For Autumn, by Lawrence English

A Colour For Autumn by Lawrence English, released 17 March 2009 1. Droplet 2. Watching It Unfold 3. The Prelude To 4. The Surface Of Everything 5. Galaxies Of Dust 6. Stillness In Motion 7. And Clouds For Company A Colour For Autumn is the second in a series of editions from Australian sound artist Lawrence English that trace the experience of seasonal transit. Following on from For Varying Degrees of Winter (published by Baskaru), A Colour For Autumn reflects on and explores the transitory nature of Autumn - counterpointing the uniformity of the ā€˜term’ with the varied qualities expressed by landscapes in different countries. Like all environmental phenomena, seasonal variation is highly localised, and expressed not only visually through vegetation etc, but also sonically as insect life, leaves under foot and fauna all change in response to the climatic shifts. Northern and southern hemisphere experiences of Autumn are strikingly different and it’s also this contrast which rests at the very centre of A Colour For Autumn. Recorded between 2007-2009, this series of pieces acts almost as small auditory portraits of given spaces in the often gentle throes of Autumn - ā€˜Droplet’ for example features field recordings gathered in Notre-Dame De La Garde in Marseilles, capturing the infamous ā€˜Mistral’ wind as it blows the first cooler breezes of Autumn into the city in 2007. By contrast ā€˜Watching It Unfold’ measures a more Australian experience of Autumn - a series of open static phrases, shifting ever so slightly - a reflection of the slow changes of the season around English’s home of Brisbane. Working with a range of analog approaches, A Colour For Autumn is a tonally rich affair, sourcing much of it’s sounds from a mixture of instruments, field recordings and assorted electronics. A Colour For Autumn also features contributions from New Zealand’s Dean Roberts (whose vocals adorn the opening moments of the album) and Viennese musician Christian Fennesz, who offers intricate clusters of electronics in ā€˜The Surface Of Everything’. This is an album of subtle variation, graded hues and tonal warmth, all of which act as an invitation for the listener to consider their own localised transition of Autumn.
