Absolute scenes on my road today as a lorry fucked up a turn and has got itself wedged across the road like that ship in the suez canal
-
A tiny success of sorts! The lorry has crawled into a position where it is only blocking one lane. However, it is very, very sick and will need to be rescued. I am excited to see what sort of lorry turns up to rescue a poorly lorry.
@stavvers I am very invested in this story now. Come on little guy! You can do it!

@floppyplopper absolutely love when a big vehicle gets trapped by its own ungainliness
@stavvers
perhaps after it gets released it might like to get trapped under a low bridge

@Scmbradley I'm rooting for him, but the poor lil dude is currently sitting sadly blinking its hazards while cars honk furiously at hin

@stavvers A cousin of mine once had one of those. It was ginormous.
You know when they're doing works on motorways, there's signs that say "broken down? wait for recovery". He had the contract to do that for a large swathe of southern England, because he owned about the only thing in the region capable of towing an 18-wheeler at the time.

@stavvers @floppyplopper We have one just outside Antrim town. Loads of signs advising alternative routes and bridge height - all of which are ignored. Traffic has to use the middle of the road to go under, so it causes a mess regularly.

@stavvers It's certainly "specialist equipment", but Richard's thing was decades ago. There's probably more choice these days.

@stavvers @floppyplopper I don't think I have but I've seen one about a lorry scalping bridge in Australia, possibly Melbourne

@stavvers @floppyplopper there's a local news clip where they're talking about the bridge with a reporter on the scene and a lorry gets scalped in real time in the background. Classic

@stavvers thanks for the frequent live reports. I am on tenterhooks.

@stavvers @floppyplopper my favourite time for that bridge is when they added sensors to detect a high vehicle approaching and turn the lights red with a warning sign. Because so many drivers saw the lights begin to change and accelerated to get through

@stavvers they could carve it up in place with oxyacetylene torches like a steel whale, to convert it into more portable bits.

Bad news: I have to leave the house for a few hours. Good news: meant I got to take a closer look at the stricken lorry on the way out. Bad news: I don't know how vehicles work so I couldn't possibly tell you what's wrong with it.

@stavvers Well clearly, it's broken.
