@skinnylatte Two weeks ago, my family and I drove for ten hours to go camping in a national park and we never left California!

@skinnylatte One of the few US city transit systems that goes directly to the airport. It's old but when I lived there I took it all the time to the airport and downtown.

@skinnylatte when my sister in law moved to Virginia from Germany she was expecting we'd be visiting her from CA quite often and was pretty offended for a while when we said "well, not that often, you know?".

          9. MARTA bus at the King Memorial MARTA Center in Atlanta, a great way to get to the King Center by transit

Tickets are around $2.50 with free 2 hour transfer

One of the cool things about taking local buses is you can get a good sense of neighborhoods

I don’t know *anything* about Atlanta neighborhoods but I immediately got the vibe that I like Cabbagetown and East Atlanta in general

@skinnylatte I find that even while travelling, and even compared to underground transit. Like, taking the surface busses in London and Paris gave us such a better sense of the shape of the city and the vibe of the neighbourhoods than taking the Tube or the Metro did, where you wind up having these highlights right around the stations, but nothing else.

I found it even more so here in Toronto when I would bike around the city.

@PastaThief @skinnylatte staying near Canada Wharf a few years ago, we'd take the bus each morning to the tube station. Waiting for the bus brought us to the daily life of London.

@skinnylatte Yeah, I think here is probably like many places, where the subway is like coarse tuning, getting you rapidly to the right general neighbourhood, and then surface transit gets you within a block of your target from there. A lot of my transit rides go bus-subway-bus.

Amtrak emailed to say they’ll be giving us Amtrak vouchers as they’re sorry about the train delays on the Southwest Chief.

If it’s a substantial voucher of some sort I’d like to spend it on a roomette. I’ve never been in one

@artcollisions last time I flew to the east coast, my sleep cycle was somewhat disrupted. Not jetlag but it was harder to switch to waking up at the usual time

Passengers in the sleeper cars get all meals included, coach passengers can opt in for meals.

I’m a fan of their breakfasts, I think it’s a nice way to start the day and it’s pretty good (diner quality omelets)

(I generally like breakfast and dinner on the train. I don’t love the sandwich / melts / burgers for lunch. They have other dishes at breakfast and dinner)

@skinnylatte Amtrak food is surprisingly good. Not fine dining, no, but thoroughly on the correct side of "acceptable". Miles above airline food.
