    7. ART (rapid transit) bus no 766 red line bus from downtown Albuquerque station near the Amtrak station.

Seems like their buses are fare-free.

Was kind of hard to find the bus stop (poor signage, closed sidewalks, no pedestrian crossing signs..) but I made it.

Fun fact: I don’t know any about NM or Albuquerque or transit here. Will update when I find out more

The bus is almost exactly the same as the AC Transit 1T in Oakland

@skinnylatte Wouldn't be surprised if I rode one of these to Fulton County Stadium years ago.

@skinnylatte They're in the process of replacing all their old trains with new modern ones but I think the new ones aren't actually in service yet. The one in your photo might be original to the opening of the system.

@skinnylatte they were revamped when the Olympics came to Atlanta in 1996 back when I lived there - maybe they haven't been updated since then

I’ll know that I’ve reached a new phase in life when I start traveling with one of these in addition to my travel kettle

It would be so nice to have my good tea leaves with me and one of these

@skinnylatte I have two different sets like that, one slightly bigger and one very compact and round like a ball. I call them my sanity when I'm travelling.

@genex @skinnylatte there are a bunch of thirty year old plus Tube trains and I bet they look better - but then I expect they also have more maintenance tlc than MARTA can afford.

@skinnylatte One of the few US city transit systems that goes directly to the airport. It's old but when I lived there I took it all the time to the airport and downtown.

@skinnylatte when my sister in law moved to Virginia from Germany she was expecting we'd be visiting her from CA quite often and was pretty offended for a while when we said "well, not that often, you know?".

One of the cool things about taking local buses is you can get a good sense of neighborhoods

I don’t know *anything* about Atlanta neighborhoods but I immediately got the vibe that I like Cabbagetown and East Atlanta in general

@skinnylatte I find that even while travelling, and even compared to underground transit. Like, taking the surface busses in London and Paris gave us such a better sense of the shape of the city and the vibe of the neighbourhoods than taking the Tube or the Metro did, where you wind up having these highlights right around the stations, but nothing else.

I found it even more so here in Toronto when I would bike around the city.

@PastaThief @skinnylatte staying near Canada Wharf a few years ago, we'd take the bus each morning to the tube station. Waiting for the bus brought us to the daily life of London.

@skinnylatte Yeah, I think here is probably like many places, where the subway is like coarse tuning, getting you rapidly to the right general neighbourhood, and then surface transit gets you within a block of your target from there. A lot of my transit rides go bus-subway-bus.

One of the cool things about taking local buses is you can get a good sense of neighborhoods

I don’t know *anything* about Atlanta neighborhoods but I immediately got the vibe that I like Cabbagetown and East Atlanta in general

Amtrak emailed to say they’ll be giving us Amtrak vouchers as they’re sorry about the train delays on the Southwest Chief.

If it’s a substantial voucher of some sort I’d like to spend it on a roomette. I’ve never been in one
