EU states must provide proper ID for transgender citizens
The EU's top court on Thursday said the bloc's countries must provide trans citizens IDs reflecting their "lived gender." The case was referred to the ECJ by Bulgaria, which sought clarity on the issue.

@eunews or, maybe it's time to stop mentioning people's gender on ID documents. Like, completely eliminate it. There's no actual reason for it.

i too love when a thing that makes me feel euphoric and accomplished that i achieved it is considered "unnecessary" to some tumblrite lunatic that demands it to be erased because they are hurt by it
sorry bub, you will not be taking that sweet victory of mine.
sorry that you're too much of a coward who doesn't fight back but i'm built different and said legal gender is, to me, a proof of winning an important battle much like soldiers get medals

@m000gletje @eunews I'm not hurt by your achievement. I just don't understand what gender markers do on identity documents anyway - how do they contribute to their function. They just don't.

@m000gletje @eunews @pq1r I'm happy for your achievement and I support your right of self expression, but I also understand the general idea that the government having any say in gender is obsolete. Every time I see a form - be it a government or a company one - that asks me for my gender I think "why". The only places that should care are dating apps, and possibly social media (although that one is better served by asking pronouns and/or titles instead).

@m000gletje @eunews @pq1r I guess there are situations where gender is a proxy for classes we want to protect, but it's still an imperfect proxy for it. Situations where we want to specifically protect women are also likely to want to protect queer people in general, regardless of gender

@miniBill @m000gletje @eunews I don't really buy the "class we want to protect" argument, and the potential for discrimination instead of protection is - in my opinion - higher.

do awards need a purpose other than be an award for achieving something? does everything need to be super deep to you in order to be deemed useful? so just because you don't get it, that means no one should be allowed to have it?
that's a mentality of a fucking 5 year old who didn't get their favourite toy and now wants everyone to stop playing with their toys

@pq1r @m000gletje @eunews eeeeh, we do live in a patriarchy unfortunately, you can't talk about - say - a gender pay gap without having a notion of gender

you're all cowards who are afraid of picking up a fight, that's what the reality is
and instead of picking the fight you want to take away what some have fought for actually because you don't feel included and you want a participation trophy
crazy how you all spout how you're definitely not mad about what i achieved, yet never thought of a consensus of choice; let people choose if they want that on their ID or not
but no, you need a participation trophy instead

@m000gletje @eunews @pq1r I think I simply prefer a world where you can change your gender by stating so instead of having to go through a lot of bureaucracy? In the same way that your ID doesn't list your sex chromosomes, your genitals, your sexual orientation or whether you are into feet, I don't think it should list your gender?
-

@m000gletje @eunews To be honest, I never thought of my ID documents as some sort of award. More like, something I need to carry on me to show I'm authorised to drive or to travel between countries.
I do understand that you felt a sense of achievement when you won the right to have the institutional recognition of your true gender. I acknowledge my privilege in that I did not have to fight the same fight you did.
I also don't think that barrier should have been there in the first place. Are you going to resent a future in which nobody has to fight for their true gender to be institutionally recognised, just because they don't have to fight the same way you did?

"if i can't have it, no one will" mentality, again are some of you just stuck in that phase of development or something?
my problem is that this piece of shit community hates people who actually do try their best to transition and win against the government - hell we now start calling people on HRT and post-surgery "transmeds", as if the very core tenet of transness that is physical transition is now Evil
it feels almost targetted to erase people who do actually transition in favor of those who chose not to, and consider them superior and "more inclusive". and i'm not taking that bullshit, i've been erased as a trans man several times by supposedly "my allies and comrades", i will not let them now erase me as a trans person who actually puts in effort to transition, including picking hard battles; because that desire of mine is stronger than bureaucracy

@m000gletje @eunews I'm done explaining how I see it, I don't think we will agree on that point.
I'm glad you got the institutional recognition you deserve and I'm sorry you had to fight for it.

i'm sorry you need trans people who fought for it and are proud of it to give up that achievement so you can feel better about yourself

@m000gletje @eunews @pq1r Jesus, what did you jump down this guy's throat for? He isn't exactly acting like a Transphobe? What's the need to pick a fight with someone who isn't looking for one?

i'm not taking bullshit from anyone who wants to take away what i fought for
including trans people themselves, you're not my comrades!!! fucking look how your kind treats fellow trans men or people who actually get to medically transition, just because we share a struggle doesn't make me your friend

@m000gletje @eunews @pq1r "Your kind" is crazy work like, The whole point of this movement is to move past the Binary gender system and get to a point where it doesn't matter anymore, anyone's free to do what they wish, and getting rid of Gender markers on ID is a step towards that, but instead of having a nice conversation about it you just went full attack mode on some random guy?
Chill out

i don't need to feel sympathy for someone just because youre trans
and yes, YOUR KIND, because the wider "trans community" has done an amazing job in excluding me throughout my entire life because i transitioned to what many of you deem "malicious gender"
also i couldnt care any less about "beyond the binary" when yall fucking fail to show up for your supposed binary siblings - or is transness now only for nonbinaries? and trans men/trans women need to go somewhere else?
you will rip my gender from my dead cold hands, over my dead fucking body, i fought for it and i'm proud of it, and i advise you to buckle up and do the same instead of trying to take away others' effort
