I finally wrapped up my custom mini #cyberdeck build last night. Uses a #waveshare ESP32-S3 touchscreen and a mini "OS" built using #circuitpython I wrote a blog post about the build (including links to download the #3dprint models and code) https://andywarburton.co.uk/post/gr3ml1n-a-compact-handheld-cyberdeck-built-for-chaos

@andy_warb super super cool build. One thing.. the repo link under "software and OS" is returning a 404 page.

@concretedog I think it should be fixed now, give it a refresh and let me know (it's working for me at least) https://github.com/andywarburton/gr3ml1n-cyberdeck

@andy_warb Not sure about the top row of keys. It would be really cool if you could put the battery in a box with a switch underneath, so that it doubles up as a space bar!

@khleedril putting the keyboard flipped was a deliberate choice as the way this works results in it being mostly thumb typing. I wanted the letters to be easy to reach above all else. It's weird as shit for sure but works quite nicely in reality. If I was building something with real switches I would definitely go for something a little more sane, but this project was mostly for the lulz 😄

@khleedril they battery space bar idea is kind of insane but could potentially work with a microswitch or something.

@andy_warb that's a nice build, the keyboard is a hard part and so many people go with those little bluetooth things from Aliexpress.

I still need to come up with a keyboard solution myself for some Android tablet based things I built a while back. Maybe I'll give tactile switches a go again but make a custom PCB. When I tried ages ago 3D printing sucked for the keycaps but now with the improvements in detail printing it might work.

@ncmreynolds honestly, the tactile keycaps are horrible to type on and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. The slop is horrible and they wobble everywhere. I think if I revisited this I would make a PCB and use those very low profile smd buttons with some kind of custom frame and silicone keys or something. This is just a dry run for a bigger build I plan to do using real low profile mechanical keyboard switches.
