    @hub @pluralistic ...just like they took responsibility for the Global Financial Crisis, Enron, Worldcom, and any number of other things they caused?

    No. They'll just deploy their PR flacks and stans to defend the move as somehow being good.

      Just as @pluralistic says: AI can’t do your job. But a sleazy AI salesman can convince your boss to fire you and replace you with their shitty chatbot. And now those bad decisions are coming home to roost.

      @ildiavolorosso @pluralistic

      One chatbot has actually been able to give me the information I needed, probably because it was a common problem.

      If I'm engaging with a chatbot, you can bet your bottom dollar that the information isn't already available on your website and the chatbots are not able to navigate beyond what is already there. Please stop wasting my time. I'm tired of rephrasing the question 4 times only to be referred to a human who can understand and provide answers.

        @AnnieBuddy @pluralistic I work in the CRM industry and have watched this for years. When it comes to both chatbots and human-centric support centers, the quality of content and interactions are generally proportional to customers' ability to hold that company accountable for a bad experience.

        Chatbots, like the processes we put into a human call center, can be tweaked to be relevant. But there is varying incentive...and competence...to do so.

                      @LordCaramac @pluralistic I've always thought that could work. But since technology is subordinate to the social and economic order, the bots SERVE the bosses and not the other way around.

                            @ildiavolorosso @Steve Clue that this was part of the establishment destination was the endlessly repeated lie that 'the economy' was all important.

                            It is only so for the rich and powerful.

                            When do they mention 'quality of life' policies ....?

                              @ildiavolorosso @AnnieBuddy @pluralistic Yep.

                              But my support requests for private-sector monopoly websites markedly differ from those for Canadian government websites.

                              For the government sites, the questions are about barely navigable UX with practically incomprehensible design and copy, but for the corporate websites, the questions are about blocking ads and LLM chatbots, automatically declining all not-strictly-necessary cookies, and overriding dark patterns.

                                      I've spent so much time seeing cops enforcing "quality of life crimes" against poor people that the term seems to have been coopted. I can see the merit in trying to take it back.

                                        @NicelyManifest @Steve Not at all 🙂

                                        I've spent so much time seeing cops enforcing "quality of life crimes" against poor people that the term seems to have been coopted. I can see the merit in trying to take it back.

                                        @ildiavolorosso @Steve I agree. I am in the UK so do not see the toxic use you see.

                                          @NicelyManifest @Steve I would! But that flight in...especially the landing...freaks me out 🙂

                                          That said, I suspect you have your share of things going on across the pond.

                                          As flawed as it may seem, Spain is looking awfully tempting right now.
