With the announcement that Discord will be requiring age-verification on a global rather than state-by-state level, the exodus is starting and I’m looking at starting up my own DeltaChat relay to support my own friends and communities moving forward.
While I’m solid on mail protocols and servers, I’ve never played with chatmail in general or DC in particular, and would greatly appreciate chatting with others who are in the same boat or (even better) are already running their own cruise ships (to stretch the analogy excessively).
Very interested in **informed** critiques (positive and negative) regarding security concerns (real or potential), extensibility via their apps/bots functionality, and real-world requirements/hidden hurdles in terms of hosting, maintenance and scalability.

@machocam Very much excited by how simple it seems (especially now that they’ve moved away from requiring a separate mail/chat mail server.

The main thing to bear in mind is that in groups there is no hierarchy - every member is the same. No owner, no admin(s). Anyone can invite people, anyone can remove people, anyone can post. This may, of course, change in the future.
The exception is channels where only the channel owner can post. So it is essentially one-way communication from the owner to the members.

@Caution I feel bad for my old EVE-Online corp. I think they're going to feel a little trapped as so much of the day to day operation is on Discord. It was at the point that they were shutting down the old forums in favour of Discord.
