Top tip for the day: find a mossy hole and a book.

@eclectech Surprise sequel ftw \o/
Finding a mossy hole does sound more and more attractive.
@LappenjammerDieZweite I was *so* excited to find that it had finally been written, and very good timing for distraction purposes.
-
@eclectech At least you're probably not honked at with a trumpet either

-
In the interests of accuracy, I am not actually sitting in a mossy hole, although the place could probably do with a dust & hoover.
@eclectech we had to wait so long for Red Side Story - but it was worth it!

@clare_hooley It is proving a splendid distraction this week. I still can't believe I missed it coming out though

This is one of my more blatant semi-autobiographical Friend posts, but FWIW I heartily recommend Jasper Fforde's books. They are the quirkiest dystopias out there.
I am super excited to be reading Red Side Story as it's the follow on to a particular favourite, and I had been looking out for it for years (part one was about 15 years ago) then totally missed the fact it had finally been released until a couple of weeks ago.
Surprise sequel! Yay!
@eclectech Fforde is Ffantastic! You might also like Alan Gordon’s Fool series. Different age but I have the same delight while reading them.

@dch He is! And thanks, will check them out.

@eclectech yes!! Shades of Grey was so WEIRD, and I started reading it thinking it was just quirky fluff but then as more of the past gets hinted at, it draws you right in. I have the sequel on my to-read list too, hope you enjoy it!

@35millimetre Hah, yes. I *loved* Shades of Grey, and am thoroughly enjoying Red Side story.
Early Riser is worth a read if you've not read it too. It had the same offbeat vibe as Shades of Grey for me.
(tbf, I love all the Thursday Next books too, but slightly prefer the others)
-
@AnguaDelphine It is most enjoyable so far. A new Thursday Next will be a treat too.

@eclectech stay away from my mossy hole and don’t touch my sporangia

@eclectech @35millimetre Omg. I love the Thursday Next ones more than all the others, and there’s a final one of those coming out in September.
I have it on preorder. -

@eclectech ok, but why the book?

@eclectech I saw a little boy sitting in a monster's open mouth as he reads a book.

I have it on preorder.@clarissawam @35millimetre Although I slightly prefer the Chromatacia books, the Thursday Next ones are awesome too - definitely one of my favourite authors. Very much looking forward to the new one.

This is the whole plan for spring, honestly.

@courtneysammis Yay! He is ace. I didn't do the sleuthing, unaware of it until looking it up just now
I'm still astounded that Red Side Story had been out for over a year before I found out about it, I have no idea how that can have happened. I swear I was checking regularly for the first decade after Shades of Grey! -
@eclectech ok, but why the book?
@Schafstelze just because it’s excellent. This is a sequel to ‘shades of grey’, which was published about a decade and half ago (not so dissimilar a time to that other very different shades of grey), and many of us had been waiting eagerly for it even since. It was finally published in 2024, but if you missed that, you might have given up actively looking!
