This is one of my more blatant semi-autobiographical Friend posts, but FWIW I heartily recommend Jasper Fforde's books. They are the quirkiest dystopias out there.

I am super excited to be reading Red Side Story as it's the follow on to a particular favourite, and I had been looking out for it for years (part one was about 15 years ago) then totally missed the fact it had finally been released until a couple of weeks ago.

    Surprise sequel! Yay!

In the interests of accuracy, I am not actually sitting in a mossy hole, although the place could probably do with a dust & hoover.

@LappenjammerDieZweite I was *so* excited to find that it had finally been written, and very good timing for distraction purposes.

@eclectech Fforde is Ffantastic! You might also like Alan Gordonโ€™s Fool series. Different age but I have the same delight while reading them.

@eclectech yes!! Shades of Grey was so WEIRD, and I started reading it thinking it was just quirky fluff but then as more of the past gets hinted at, it draws you right in. I have the sequel on my to-read list too, hope you enjoy it!

@35millimetre Hah, yes. I *loved* Shades of Grey, and am thoroughly enjoying Red Side story.

Early Riser is worth a read if you've not read it too. It had the same offbeat vibe as Shades of Grey for me.

(tbf, I love all the Thursday Next books too, but slightly prefer the others)
