    Today in grafting: I am planting as many tomato plants as I can before it (actually!!!) rains on Monday. This bed is finished, and is what I think is the ultimate layout: two big toms (Taiga, Midnight Sun) plus four smalls (Estonian) with Swanson's medium nugget mulch. If that mulch ever gets discontinued, I will have a crisis on my hands. It's all I use!

      @paparatti have you ever used that mulch for strawberries?

      Related... may I link to your post to ask someone else here about their thoughts on it? They advised on using bark or woodchips, and I want to compare with a local example.

          @marsiposa well, I have never really seriously grown strawberries for eating, but I have a few on one part of my hill for erosion control and they seem to like it?

          (And yes, share away! Might not be able to respond if needed for a while though, I'm still planting.)

            Hey @yvan what do you think of the mulch in the picture above, but using it for strawberries? Is it similar at all to what you use?
            (that specific mulch comes from a local nursery, so it's a good point of reference for me)

                I only stopped because I ran out of soil!!! And while I could plant in pure mushroom compost, I don't think that's the best idea? (Or is it???)

                The remainders, waiting for soil and pots:

                  @paparatti
                  Spent mushroom compost, used straight, may have too high a 'salts' level for some plants.
