OK. I did it, finally.

I gotta be honest, I'm a bit annoyed at the amount of AI nonsense going on at both the conference and within the community right now. It was more emotionally difficult to book this year than it has been in years prior. I am expecting more tense social interactions that require a far higher degree of self-regulation this time than I am used to at an event where I usually feel like I am Among My People.
@glyph feeling something similar. The AI hype-cycle is draining. The volume of slop submitted as proposed talks boggled my mind. Why does anyone stifle their authentic voice behind a pile of rubbish talking points? I’m not interested in in Claude’s pointless summary of some prompts. I. Want. To. Hear. A. Real. Person. Really. Speaking.

I am going to need some volutnteer copy-editors / advance readers for this monstrosity. if you're a booster this is going to be a hard read because it's relentlessly negative. but if you're a critic it's going to be a hard read because there's a lot of harm-reduction safety-tips language assuming that the reader doesn't agree with me and that they will continue to use AI (or at the very least are not able to escape mandates to use AI). so does anyone feel like doing some self-abuse next week
@glyph I'm in if you want, hit me

@glyph I'm a gen AI hater, but reluctantly having to engage and participate in the current ecosystem, including supporting it at work. I'm pretty much the target audience for this, happy to give it an advance pair of eyes, or just read it when you publish.

why am I feeling all this torment though? it's a mystery
@glyph "Good news everyone! I've innovated on the classic novel Don't put your hand in the Torment Nexus by jamming in both hands!"

@glyph the existence of evil doesn't come with a responsibility to stare directly into the evil at all times. Sometimes the most good you can do is to look away for a while and live a life.
This is why I practice direct action to help with basic needs (e.g. efoodnet.org), it's a way to fight evil while surrounded by good. Honestly I just cant let myself negatively spiral, and this is a better practice than avoidance.

@jay I am struggling a bit with _everything_ right now, as I am digging out of a multi-dimensional hole. but, the difficulty here in particular is simply that I have given myself a project that is much more challenging on more axes than I originally appreciated, and I'm kinda locked in on it right now. I think it's important to fight through this but the process is somewhat … adversarial, as the evidence is changing quickly and there are a lot of bad actors in this space

7500 words. now there's 13 sections, I think. I have been staring directly into the beam a bit too long
@glyph
Haven't we all? -
@glyph
Haven't we all?@gdupont that is after all the problem I am trying to help solve I guess

@davebauerart
That was a very good video - I'm glad I watched the whole thing. It did make me rethink how I interact with others.

8500 words, but that's after I just deleted my first section of about 800 words, which suggests that finally something like a shape of a final edit might be taking place

23 sections now… and *maybe* it has enough structure now that this is going to get released as a post-a-day series that runs for a month instead of just an apocalyptically huge monolithic mess

@glyph For what it's worth, I love me a long form I can save and read carefully. I also feel like the tide is shifting back that direction somewhat. But I'll of course happily read it in any form.
