️@robyn I’m ignorant of the politics there, so I may be completely wrong. But my guess is “Red Tape Reduction Minister Dale Nally” votes/acts in favour of privatised healthcare while also saying “We hear from Albertans all the time, that they are tired of having disintegrated health-care cards in their wallets, and so this is just going to offer them more convenience”.

@leroy That part is true, those paper cards are ridiculous. You can treat them with the utmost respect in your wallet and they absolutely still do have a half-life

but... A citizenship marker!? I don't know a single person who wanted this or thinks this is a good idea. Smacks of dogwhistle to me.
... and then on top of that, this is a province looking to *run a referendum on separation from the country whose citizenship marker they're putting on the license*.

️@robyn For sure, that makes sense. We have that in BC, no complaints here. You can also get a separate health card (plastic) if you don’t have a drivers licence.
But yeah, I don’t think left hand knows what right hand is doing in that government.

️@robyn It still blows my mind that Alberta, the *literally most wealthy province in Canada* issues PAPER HEALTHCARDS to it's populace.
.....
Have you no pride AHS?

@Javensbukan @robyn they're also changing the dino fossil on the old one to a pumpjack, so that's also very classy.

@Javensbukan @robyn Well at least you are allowed to laminate it or cover it with plastic. The marriage license card however … nope. Paper too

Explain that to me like I’m an American.@Asymmetricblue @Javensbukan @robyn It’s a little paper piece that shows your maiden name and who you are married too. It’s really stupid but right after you change your name (if you do) or status you have to prove that to several institutions. So I had to carry it around and still do. I never use it anymore but it’s in the wallet I guess.

@Bowreality @Asymmetricblue @robyn I know we have 'marrige licenses' here as well, but I believe it's a big giant peice of paper / plastic that's for legal documentation, but I don't believe we carry it around.

@Javensbukan @Asymmetricblue @robyn Yup we get the big one too but that even harder to haul around. My husband of course had zero use for it but since I changed my last name …

@Bowreality @Asymmetricblue @robyn Ah yeah! I remember requesting a long form birth certificate for my UK Visa and it came and I was like Jeebus, thing is like a full sheet of 8.5" x 11" out of polymer and hella fancy.

@Bowreality @Asymmetricblue @robyn The original 'short form' one is card sized and made out of paper and very fragile.

@Javensbukan @Asymmetricblue @robyn Who makes “cards” of our of paper anyways. This has never made sense.
