@Javensbukan @robyn they're also changing the dino fossil on the old one to a pumpjack, so that's also very classy.

@Javensbukan @robyn Well at least you are allowed to laminate it or cover it with plastic. The marriage license card however … nope. Paper too

@Asymmetricblue @Javensbukan @robyn It’s a little paper piece that shows your maiden name and who you are married too. It’s really stupid but right after you change your name (if you do) or status you have to prove that to several institutions. So I had to carry it around and still do. I never use it anymore but it’s in the wallet I guess.

@Bowreality @Asymmetricblue @robyn I know we have 'marrige licenses' here as well, but I believe it's a big giant peice of paper / plastic that's for legal documentation, but I don't believe we carry it around.

@Javensbukan @Asymmetricblue @robyn Yup we get the big one too but that even harder to haul around. My husband of course had zero use for it but since I changed my last name … 😏

@Bowreality @Asymmetricblue @robyn Ah yeah! I remember requesting a long form birth certificate for my UK Visa and it came and I was like Jeebus, thing is like a full sheet of 8.5" x 11" out of polymer and hella fancy. 👀

@Bowreality @Asymmetricblue @robyn The original 'short form' one is card sized and made out of paper and very fragile.

@Bowreality @Asymmetricblue @robyn Ha truth. Mine looks like it was clearly done on a form printer using a dot Matrix printer or other type of impact printer, circa 1980s, which tracks. 💾

Where I worked we literally *just* got rid of our (newish) Epson Dot Matrix printers which were still used in specific applications where thermal printers couldn't be used because of label incompatibility with the products.

@Bowreality @Asymmetricblue @robyn They were my favourite printers at work, zero issues with them. They just *worked*.

LOUDLY but, they did the thing.

                            Meanwhile our other printers:

Mercury is in tomatogate, I'ma eat all your paper and barf toner everywhere k? K.

                            That will be $600.

                              @Javensbukan @Asymmetricblue @robyn I agree. Endless paper too!

Printers are really overdue for a revolutionary product. They are mostly total garbage. I have a very basic and older Brother laser printer that I hardly ever use. It’s probably the most pain free printer but still it’s not an issue free experience at all. It’s a very “mood teenager” type of equipment. Limited in use too

@Bowreality @Asymmetricblue @robyn My printer at home is a Value Village special I found for $10, it's USB only and the toner I bought remanufactured for cheap. It's pretty pain free.

Is it just me, or does it look like someone in the UCP asked “AI” to redesign our licence card?

imho it’s pretty ugly… and yes: made infinitely worse by the racist, fascist, prejudice-enabling maple leaf in the corner.

@robyn "We know that there are hundreds of thousands more health-care cards that are in circulation than there are Albertans, so we know that fraud is rampant* said Nally

Or, wild possibility here, could it be that people keep having to get new health cards because the current ones are made of paper so they disintegrate and need replacing?

Typical UCP mindset - if I got a new card it would be because I was doing fraud, so that *must* be what's going on.

@robyn "Could the extra cards be accounted for by Albertans who have passed on but are still in the system? Nally said the government would need to do more research into why there’s such a large discrepancy"

Oh for fucks sake. We know there's rampant fraud but also we haven't made any effort at all to check.

@dragonfrog it is absolutely bizarre. also, when they say "cards," do they mean the flippy floppy paper things that get issued, or do they mean actual distinct health care *numbers*. These are obv very different, and I don't see them make that distinction 🧐

the former is: I changed my name, I get a new set of cards. I moved within AB, same. I lost my wallet, same. etc etc.

                                          I think it's mostly a dogwhistle tbh 🙄
