    Just in case anyone else thinks Summer is wearing a shock collar. She isn't.
    She is a much loved dog and I would never let anyone use pain to train her.
    She has had to train us and thankfully didn't need to use a shock collar.
    I felt bad that someone would call me out for something so false.
    I think she looks like a happy dog who is comfortable in her fur and collar and the knowledge that her housemates love her to the moon and back.

      @NorcalGma2 FWIW it sounds like they’re saying a lot about themselves. Please give Summer a smooch on the forehead if she’d like one and sending you all the best wishes.

        @NorcalGma2 A shock collar? What a ridiculous thing to say! This person clearly doesn't know you or Summer.

        That angers me a bit.

        It makes me sad that someone would make that assumption. I responded that they were wrong and after a few minutes went back to block the account.

            @NorcalGma2 What is the grey rectangle on her collar, if you don't mind my asking? I feel like, if someone had no familiarity with shock collars or you and Summer, I could see why they might think that she's wearing one. The rectangle in question looks vaguely like the rectangle that houses the little metal shocking nodes on some shock collars. To be clear, I'm not endorsing the use of such collars; I know about them to a small extent because my cousin had one on her dog with an invisible fence, because her hoa wouldn't let them have any fencing in the front yard and her dog would try to run out the front door to chase the mailman, squirrels, anything really, so they got an underground fence like thingy put in so when their dog would try to leave the yard, the collar would shock him. Eventually, he stopped trying to go past the yard. I tried it on once (I put it on my ankle and tried running over the invisible fence) and it hurt, but it wasn't awful.

              @Fanfalla @NorcalGma2 I’m fairly sure it’s a GPS tracker. We have a GPS tracker for our boy as well.

                @Fanfalla
                The rectangle is a Tractive DOG 6.
                It is basically a fitness tracker for dogs.
                It monitors her activity, heart rate, barking patterns and sleep. It will alert me to health changes.
                The collar will also help me find her if we are separated as it is also a GPS tracker. I do walk her off leash everyday and although she stays close by if something did happen her collar would lead my phone to her.
                The tracker was a gift from someone who has much more dog raising experience than I.
                Summer is our first dog.

                    @NorcalGma2 @Fanfalla we love our tractive, ours is a generation or two older, but René does get carried away sometimes and so while he doesn’t have a lot of offlead time (we live in London so there’s not many wide open safe spaces to let him off to begin with!) it’s good to know that if he gets away from us for any reason we can see where he’s got to.

                            @NorcalGma2

                            I lived with a carbon copy of Summer: his name was Bosco. Phoenix, every morning, before sunrise, we would bounce the tennis ball until Bosco was worn out, at which point I would get him a bowl of ice chips and water and he would eat/drink the whole thing.

                            Bosco was a good boy, most of the time. Of his Excursions into Badness I will remain silent, for Bosco slept in my bed and for most of his life hadn't been properly managed. But he obeyed me and enjoyed it.

                            For Balls were his desire, whole and entire. Bosco the Deug.

                              @NorcalGma2 oh no 😞 please don't take the nit pickers to heart. We can see you love Summer way too much to put a shock collar on her. That comment says a lot more about that person than it does about you, likely that they spend too much time looking for things to judge about others even when it goes against reasonable assumptions. Leaving a hug in case needed. You are lovely and I'm so glad you're here.

                                  Yes, that was obviously someone who doesn't know you or Summer at all. I think blocking was a good idea.

                                  I remember taking my first dog training class in the 1980's, and at that time, there was no punishing the dog for misbehavior at all.

                                  I recall as a child seeing people swat at a dog, but never found it necessary. They learn better with positive reinforcement and loving connection. And you have a better relationship if it's not based on fear of punishment.

                                      I used my grandkids training experience. Summer has been so easy she has never pottied in the house. I scooped her up and took her outside every time she ate, drank or woke up until she stayed alerting me to go out.
                                      I never allowed her to jump on people or doors because that was my pet peeve.
                                      Other than that we have just played it by ear. She is very smart and was born with lots of skills.

                                        @NorcalGma2 That's amazing! Does it have an internal battery or do you have to charge it or anything?

                                        I charge it about once a week.
