    WARREN ZEVON
    Excitable Boy
    1978 Canada pressing

    The man, the myth, the legend gets last spin of the night.

    Truly one of the greatest songwriters to ever walk the Earth, and a flawless album front to back.
    It’s actually quite embarrassing.
    There isn’t a song on this record that’s not great.
    Not GOOD…
    GREAT.

    A true one of a kind talent the likes we’ll never see or hear again.

    If you’ve never seen it, go on YouTube and watch his final appearance on Letterman.
    Zevon was dying, and Dave gave him the WHOLE show that night.

    Even on death’s door, he performed immaculately, and in the interview was funny, self-deprecating and fully the Warren we’ve always known.
    It’s a remarkable and incredibly emotional watch.

    Excitable boy, they all said.

    He sure was.

    Just the greatest.

      @TheVinylApe

      It's wild but for a long time, I could tell an LP release was Canadian based entirely on the font that was used for the artist and track information on the labels.

            That font (the one in your picture), and the round MAPL logo when applicable.

                Here it is again, in another of your own pictures.

                I used to memorize all of the information on record labels. My first ever conspiracy theory was when I was nine and I realized that KC & the Sunshine band had four #1 singles that were all exactly 3:06 long.

                  @angiebaby 😂
                  I’ve lost track of how many maple leaf records I own.
                  Far far too many.
                  Probably over 1,000.

                  It’s actually quite embarrassing.

                      @TheVinylApe

                      Canadian pressings in a lot of cases were superior to the US ones. Particularly singles, where a lot of labels in the States were cheaping out by pushing out injection-molded styrene records which would wear out after a minimal number of plays on the kind of turntables most teenagers had.

                            Besides the immaculate "Werewolves", my favorite Zevon song might be "Roland, the Headless Thompson Gunner" (either that or "Boom Boom Mancini").

                                    @TheVinylApe I had this album and I still listen to this album and it's almost shocking how many songs hold up in 2026.

                                          @TheVinylApe Preludes is an excellent collection, and a beautifully packaged vinyl, if you can find that one.
