My daughter just came home with a strawberry plant. We don't have terraces set up or anything. Anyone got any quick n dirty tricks? #gardening
@Sempf They work fine in any pots. You just gotta watch for the runners ("daughters") as they tend to spread kinda like weeds. Amazon also has lots of terraced pots.

@Sempf it won't beat fruit this year.

@Sempf Strawberries are pretty forgiving. If you have a pot, stick it in that for the time being until you can get something else set up.

A length of gutter? They have small root balls, if you’re careful with watering they don’t need a lot of soil.
Also, dangling strawberry flowers and fruit are lovely.@Sempf

@Sempf Strawberries can grow well in pots. If you don't have outdoor space, a sunny window might work

@Sempf There are two types of strawberries: Hanging and standing(? sorry, german speaker). You can put both in a pot and just stand (or hang) them somewhere with a lot of light. They don't need much caring and are self-pollinating.

@blindcoder I'm going to do exactly that: put them in a pot and set the pot in with the rest of my garden stuff. Thank you very much, and I didn't know they were self-pollinating, so that's good information too, thank you. I love the domain of your Mastodon instance, by the way; that is fantastic.

@Sempf The missus instructed me to set up three segments of gutter along the back wall. The filled them with soil and strawberry plants. It was too late last year to gauge the success, but we'll find our this year.

@Sempf 8-inch pot. Sandy well-packed soil, put the plant as deep as you can, NOT in daylong full sun. Partial shade actually works better. Later, plant it in a semi-shade spot in the ground.

@Sempf There's always the tried and true strawberry pot.
Pop the plant in there with good soil, water it well (but not too much).
If/when it tosses out runners, plant them in the additional space in the plot.
Done well, they should come back next year as well.

@Sempf
Suerte

@Sempf This is what it looks like as of yesterday. There are small drainage holes in the bottom of the drainpipes, I don't know why there's no plants in the bottom tier (I let the other half do all the planting).
