My ex & her new partner are bringing my 11 y/o son up as a vegan. I asked him if it was his choice - he said no & he hates the food. So now every Friday when he stays at mine we fire the BBQ up & have steak, ribs & wings. It's the most we've ever bonded.

    @fesshole

Wife and I were vegetarians and raised two omnivore kids. It's not so difficult once you find the routines.

Today wife and I are vegan (not an eating disorder, but the only way to go!). Youngest child is vegan too, oldest child is veggie-leaning flexitarian - she used to be vegan-leaning vegetarian, but then she got pregnant...😁

My point is, that presented with the various options combined with no pressure, both kids ended up making their own (the right!) choice.

@fesshole Veganism isn't child abuse, but not taking in to account what the kid wants is just wrong. Glad he knows someone supports his atonomy.

I don't think anyone is suggesting bringing up the kid on a diet of pure meat. That definitely wouldn't be healthy. But letting him feast to make up for the lack of meat during the rest of the week doesn't sound so bad.

@fesshole As long as you're doing it out of respect to his autonomy of choice, that's laudable. Don't turn it into a way to get back at your ex.

@slowlygoingsane @fesshole this is wrong on both counts. Vegan diets are an ethical choice.....oh wait, you have a cross in your username. Never mind. You probably think animals are lesser beings and other creationist nonsense. Forcing your religion on children is child abuse. Asking a child to eat broccoli when it doesn't want to is normal human life.

2/10. You almost got me to genuinely argue with you, but ultimately failed at trolling. You are not awaiten in Trollhalla. Zero accolades.

@blogdiva @jak2k @slowlygoingsane I fear we will hit the point where we won't be able to feed all humans, and billions will die--because the escalating climate chaos will ruin harvests all over the planet and turn fertile land into deserts, because pesticides ruin the ecosystems and pollinators vanish, because a lot of land gets swallowed by the sea, and because the collapsing economy fails to distribute the food to those who need it.

that’s an eugenics (and fascist) talking point.

the industrial revolution in europe did not come with agrarian reform. no coincidence eugenics appears when the guys who own all the land can’t find workers at 2 pennies an hour because the factory owner will train and pay them 5 pennies.

look, there is nothing special about veganism. what’s special is how it’s used to normalize eugenics and squash agrarian reform & land redistribution.

@blogdiva @slowlygoingsane The calculation about veganism assumes perfect distribution. It's based on the estimated number of humans, area usable for agriculture and the amount of calories a human needs. To my best knowledge, land redistribution won't be enough if we continue using products made from animals. I'm happy to learn otherwise though.

@fesshole My family of origin fed me meat and other animal products before I was even aware of myself. They didn't let me choose for myself whether I wanted to consume animal products or not when old enough to understand what that meant.

They also smoked in front of me (my mother during pregnancy as well), gave me alcoholic drinks since I remember instead of letting me choose whether to drink them or not when old enough to understand the consequences, and they forced me to undergo Catholic rituals threatening me with physical and economic violence.

@patricus @slowlygoingsane An aninals needs food too. If you eat that food directly, you will have more food than you would have gotten from the animal.

My ex & her new partner are bringing my 11 y/o son up as a vegan. I asked him if it was his choice - he said no & he hates the food. So now every Friday when he stays at mine we fire the BBQ up & have steak, ribs & wings. It's the most we've ever bonded.

@fesshole my parents forced corpses on me even when I said that I don't want to eat animals.

My mother smoked, not only in front of me but letting me lit her cigarettes. I wasn't even 10. Now I have COPD. I never smoked myself.

My parents let me drink alcohol before I even went to Kindergarden. My father even forced it on me after I started school

So having a caring mother that even cares for animals & the future of her child is the best thing that happens to your child

@rhelune @jak2k but well, meat gives that oomph to a meal that any fake meat can't reproduce.
