    @ianturton That also happily makes the point that a sitting MP can make billions, if the rules allow.
    In reality though, I can't see the PoW renovation project getting as far as first fix plumbing in this decade. Or the next? She could be in the Lords by then - so let's see their rules aligned with MPs' too. @ChrisMayLA6

      now some are going to spin this as a problem for the Greens, but actually if I was them I would be pointing out that this is why Hannah Spencer is more like the locals than the flown-in other candidates.

      Like many working people she has to prioritise keeping her skills up to date!

      @ChrisMayLA6 Well, the William Hill odds (decimal format) are currently:
      Greens: 1.40
      Reform: 3.50
      Labour: 9.00
      (and several other parties >100) so the betting public seem fairly certain of a Green win !

        Not going to follow link. Something along the lines of any publicity is good publicity - say something that will get supporters chuckling and a few undecideds looking up but not actually get them arrested.

            @ChrisMayLA6 I don't recall any working plumbers sitting in the HoC. Will the planned changes about second jobs likely allow someone like her to stay qualified??

            @Tony_Meredith

            That's a good Q.; although whether the rules on second-jobs will finally be enacted is a different Q.

                It was a detail in the FT story about the by-election, which I thought was worth pulling out of the main story about the by-election canvassing

                    you know if you have 'reader view' in your browser you can often read FT stories without going behind the paywall....

                      @ChrisMayLA6 I'm surprised - I use reader view nearly all the time [as much for focus as barrier avoidance] but just assumed a pub. as on-the-money as FT would have this well sorted. I seem to remember it was often you got the first 50 lines or so and then the subscribe link. But thanks again, I'll will actually check next time a link come up.

                        I can't check as I have a (free, sorry) academic subscription... but people have confirmed in the past, so you should be fine - to be honest I think the FT is more interested in getting its reporting out as widely as possible.... so the paywall is likely to be permeable

                          @ChrisMayLA6 True. They publicised their Covid coverage as all-free, and it was amongst the best, with their commissioned data-presentation.

                            @ChrisMayLA6 I love this and almost think it's intentional as a story. The more other parties bring it up the more people hear about it which I think the greens actually want. Could it all be a smart PR play?
