    @tokensane

    Are the ants communist?

    @futurebird IIRC they were just ants. The entomology seemed pretty well researched. Early on the protagonist mcgyvered a crossbow out of disassembled insects, with nettle and later wasp venom for stopping power.

      @futurebird The Cold War bit came later: they get sent on a secret mission to find out what the Russian miniaturisation programme is up to.

        Imagine eating single part of a raspberry like an apple!

          @SomeVeganCheeseIsOk @futurebird nah, you'd be in the next country or out to sea by the time they got their shit together. I've seen lots of monster movies, I'm pretty sure I could wreak a LOT of havoc before they put me down!

          @akamran @SomeVeganCheeseIsOk @futurebird Especially when you consider, in the old #Godzilla movies, the military frequently **lost track of Godzilla** ... while he was ashore!! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

              A mad scientist has a shrink/grow ray and you will be hit with it. You will either be 100 times larger (200 m tall) or 100 times smaller (2 cm tall) for one week.

              Because of movie logic you will not die or suffer any huge health impacts, but you must make it through the week.

              Do you go big? Or do you go small?

              How will you spend your week?

              @futurebird I read The Men in the Walls by William Tenn. I'll be alright as a 2 cm miniature, on the condition I retain the same number of brain cells (I read Fantastic Voyage by Isaac Asimov as well ๐Ÿ˜ฌ).

                @gbargoud @futurebird Aha! I would spend the week before shrinking building a sort of Lego wonderland with cool architecture, slides, battery powered vehicles, etc. ๐Ÿ‘

                  @futurebird I'm trying to figure out what my calorie and water requirements will be at the different sizes. I mean, assuming I can even digest matter made from "normal" sized stuff... Like if I'm small, can I even drink water? Would my body be able to make use of the 100 time too large molecules? ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

                  @cstanhope @futurebird This exact thing has always troubled me about being shrink-rayed!

                  That, and whether my own body's molecules would be shrunk, or are some percentage of them disappeared while I'm getting shrunk, and then how do I get them back (and in the right location) when I'm unshrunk?

                  I've been considering these difficulties since way back to "Fantastic Voyage" (1966).
