@IngridHbn That looks much quicker! I used to put a leaf or something in front of them and see if they would crawl on, then shift them to a safe place. This would take a while!

This is really well communicated here, thank you for sharing it.

Although (because I am an atrocious pedant) most land snails aren't a him or a her... they're hermaphrodites!

@IngridHbn hi Ingrid, in the interest of transparency could you indicate which platform did you use to generate this image or credit the artist? It very much looks like the info graphics some AIs are putting out. It would be much appreciated if AI is properly tagged on mastodon.

A reverse image search found two Facebook posts, both from any 12 to 13 hours ago.

                            One of identical. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18GVUfbX2J/

The other is almost identical but stylized differently. https://www.facebook.com/share/1CNx3QkoGW/

The search didn't turn up any earlier versions of that infographic.

As a biologist, I call bullshit. The anatomy is correct, but I've never seen a snail getting injured by lifting it off the ground. It's not like a suction pad. The only place where it *might* happen is a very smooth, artificial surface, like a window. But there, you'll feel the resistance, and won't rip it off. Also, usually they retreat quite fast when in danger, you don't need half a minute for that.

If you really want to hurt a snail, you may be able to break its mantle (never seen it actually happen), but the crack on the foot looks ridiculous.

Tangential fun fact: snails intentionally stab each other during mating. Look up "love dart"!

@IngridHbn But why do you need to pick up a snail only to put it back in the direction it was heading?

Also the graphic shows the snail being turned around to face the other way.
