Some of my youth clients are hesitant to engage because of their unresolved trauma and grief but it’s my job to keep showing up. Today one of my quiet high schoolers who’d always been polite but never wanted to talk, told me about a house he built. He took me to the backyard of his foster home and pointed at a bird feeder. There was a House finch on it and a couple of Rock pigeons on the ground below it. He said “my friends are here.”

Ever felt like you were exactly where you were meant to be?

@Jgbird Did you start crying? I'm tearing up just imagining the scene.

@Jgbird @PapyrusBrigade patience with fragile beings. Like bird photography 😁.

I’m careful to maintain proper boundaries and not misuse self-disclosure, but I know who’s inheriting my common backyard birds book.
