Today one of my quiet high schoolers who’d always been polite but never wanted to talk, told me about a house he built. He took me to the backyard of his foster home and pointed at a bird feeder. There was a House finch on it and a couple of Rock pigeons on the ground below it. He said “my friends are here.”
