Interesting interchange project being proposed somewhere in Texas. (ostensibly includes a multi-use path for pedestrians and bicycles... 🤔)

@ai6yr Unless the highlighted merge (choke) points are addressed by adding extra lanes or something, it's not going to help at a cost of a lot of extra pavement. Also requires too much shoulder-checking for the average North American driver. And shoulder checking at a very acute angle behind the driver.

@VE7WYC @ai6yr And over the right shoulder also, which is not something we have spent our lives doing. And yeah, that's a lot of merging.

@W6KME @VE7WYC @ai6yr Merge points are almost always what create chronic traffic jams, because people never want to give way

I feel like this wants to be a roundabout

@VE7WYC @ai6yr crummy sight lines plus extremely short acceleration/deceleration zones in the exit/merge areas. It'll be like trying to jump on an operating Tilt-a-Whirl while blindfolded.

Must have been designed by the Injury Lawyers Guild.

@simonbp @W6KME @ai6yr Yup. And North Americans will do anything to avoid roundabouts.

Also, different curve radii means different approach speeds, which makes merging even more difficult.

@VE7WYC @ai6yr There is a highway near where I live that almost actually does this. It is terrible and there is at least one accident there every day I think.
