@maya_b I knew this would either be my first typewriter, or my only typewriter…so I went fairly cheaply.

However, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking at Olivettis on eBay…

@lawyersgunsnmoney I got mine on eBay if that helps. There are a decent number of different typewriters available - I chose this model after searching “good typewriters for beginners” online. Now I kind of want an Olivetti

Here's a very similar model that I found by the way (I believe mine is an SM9 Deluxe and this is an SM8, the entire SM series was recommended by several sources I read about as good machines):

@lawyersgunsnmoney I'm guessing it will cost a little bit more but you'll also know that it's in great condition...I definitely took a risk on mine, but it worked out!

Edit: I say that to say I imagine even if it costs a bit more the peace of mind might be worth it.

@lawyersgunsnmoney Same...but with all the cameras, the records, the stamps, the computers...I can only assume I'm a few typewriters away from my wife leaving me

@kaiser_franz Just sent the link. I’m not mechanically inclined so having one all done up and working is worth it to me. I will buy one in a few months but there are some other spendy things I plan to buy in the next few weeks and there is a legal time limit so…

@kaiser_franz beautiful! I have a lot of typing experience many decades in my life. A good tool is beyond a joy when it suits you in particular.

@kaiser_franz when I was transcribing for an author and a court reporter as a young mom I got my hands on a gorgeous electric typewriter that was like going from a donkey to a bullet train! I made good money then, because my speed quadrupled lolol my brilliant cerise-colored Selectric. I miss her still.
