Hi #fediverse. We need to talk about something.

While browsing the Fediverse today it appears most people here have never tried to pick up a duck or swan. Like, not even once during their childhood.

Some people say they've not even touched a living chicken!

My hypothesis is that people here get upset about whatever hypothesis I present so I'll shutup on this.

    ๐Ÿฆ† ๐Ÿฆข

Have you try pick up a duck or swan?

Please boost for scientific accuracy (or don't, it's your choice, that #science for you!)

@Pepijn Pick up - no. Did pet a Canada goose while feeding them a couple summers back.

Ok. Just tried the two step method. It really is not as easy as the original video makes it out to be.

I believe you may be what people call "an odd duck", Pepijn.

That is not a criticism. I like ducks (have picked many up, petted them, fed them, raised them from egg, studied them in the wild, etc.) I like most "odd" people, much more in fact than I like hidebound, sullen, militantly average people.

                  I'm an odd duck, myself.

                  Thanks for your entertaining posts.

@Pepijn I've voted no, because I've only picked up a duckling, never a full grown duck.

Having met some adult ducks, I'm not sure it's as easy as the instructional video suggests.

@kobold the way I used to pick up geese was to grab them by the neck very close to their head, and just a second later I would put the other arm around their body so their wings are held close and cannot flap.

I should say that I've never picked up a goose who did not know me, and I have *never* tried this on a swan. Swans are *much* more powerful than geese and a lot meaner

Good luck! Send photos of bruises from wing blows! ๐Ÿ˜‹

@Pepijn @mwt I picked up a duckling once. This turned out to be a major mistake on my part, as Mama Duck took violent exception. I hear birds have hollow bones, but I swear being battered around the head by duck wings is NO joke.

Donโ€™t get me started on geeseโ€ฆ

Hi #fediverse. We need to talk about something.

While browsing the Fediverse today it appears most people here have never tried to pick up a duck or swan. Like, not even once during their childhood.

Some people say they've not even touched a living chicken!

My hypothesis is that people here get upset about whatever hypothesis I present so I'll shutup on this.

Have you try pick up a duck or swan?

@Pepijn I have not tried to pick up either a duck or a swan, but I have helped a tortoise that was older than me climb into my lap.

@Pepijn ducks are easy, except the one I picked up pooped all over me. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

                                        Geese are harder.

Swans are evil. Don't do it

@Pepijn ducks, chickens, and geese. Still have faint scars on my forearms from their unintentional scratches.
