I think Jeff Halper is right; we must analyze the actions of Israel and its army through the lens of settler colonialism. When they threaten to turn southern Lebanon into another Gaza, it's not just empty talk, and they are doing it. From a geopolitical standpoint, one could argue that Gaza was merely a provocation, providing the US with a war-like context and allowing Israel to expand its territory further.
