@lumiworx @kimlockhartga @briankrebs
It's Palantir and other AI tech bros who are data hungry for more data-inaccessible correlations
Intelligence agencies hope for intel.
Politicians hope for leverage against any and all
The US wants to chose their politicians in any nation by manufacturing consent with AI and micromanagement.
This is neither Trump nor Miller ... ok somewhat MIller
ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ -
@farbel @briankrebs Love this!
@farbel @briankrebs My approach was a little more candy coated...

-
@Frantasaur
Honestly? I think it might be a wedge.All authoritatian governents wants control over citizens and monitor them.
This could be a first step to implement this kind of controls, first to a 'minor group' then to everyone. The window of possibilities shift a little bit with every action of this kind.Also, previously there were internacional arrangements between countries regarding visitors and such; but they can blurt any half cooked justification and extend that control to non-american people "in a legal-y way", instead of fliping the table as they do lately.
@mistheart @CrankyOtter @briankrebs recently I read a post saying that it makes more sense to read the motivations for the actions of Trumpâs people as an abusive partner, rather that fascism. In that context itâs more like an analog of isolating the victim from their support network (friends, family).
-
@briankrebs hold on, just trying to remember that work phone number from 8 years ago I did all my terrorist planning texts from.
They're so clever to wring it out of me like this. I nearly got away with it.
@Iwillyeah @briankrebs reminds me of the troubles era âlanding formsâ that the British used to make people coming from Northern Ireland fill in before arriving in another part of the UK (yes, there was no border control, it was an internal flight). Questions like the âpurpose of your visitâ, like they were actually going to catch someone out there who would write âterrorist bombing campaignâ by mistake

-
@Em0nM4stodon @briankrebs I'm honestly sad that I will most likely never be able to visit New York City, which is the main place I would have loved to visit there.
@ainmosni @briankrebs Same here sigh

-
@Stevenheywood @briankrebs Looks like even Nige has cooled off a bit lately - after being snubbed maybe.
@annehargreaves @Stevenheywood @briankrebs no, heâs keeping quiet while the backlash against the US is ongoing (a bit like Wilders here in the Netherlands), but heâs still âat itâ and very connected with what is going on there.
-
@masek The thing is, they know that people will omit information. This is what gives them the upper hand. So the only way to win this game is not to play...
@hyperbolix @masek yeh, basically they can always find a reason you âliedâ. Although they seem to not need this right now even for US citizens.

@Frantasaur @mistheart @briankrebs Theyâre both. The abuse is how they heighten the fear while they slide in the fascism.
The only way out of the US is via Mexico, Canada, or over endless water.
ICE is set up for a kettleing maneuver at the Canadian border, with work camps. in the Dakotas being built.
Fewer international travelers to the US means fewer planes coming AND FEWER LEAVING the US. No visa? Canât get out.
I donât exactly know the goal but I see the mechanism.

@briankrebs @Frantasaur it's a very English thing to do, for the sake of appearances.
-
@briankrebs these are Stasi methods and goes extremely deep into private area.
@astrokramkiste @briankrebs Well... Mr Trump apparently loved to go extremely deep into private areas... đ«Ł
-
@briankrebs I mean, it's not like *this* is suddenly the reason for me not to want to visit.
Never been, never will. The act that these days they wouldn't let my trans ass in anyways is of no consequence.
I'll continue to enjoy beautiful Canada, not to mention all the places in Europe I've already visited and will again in the future. Would love to see more of the world too, the USA can eat a dick though.
@not3ottersinacoat come on down to
we'll be happy to have you over anytime you'd like! -
@Frantasaur @lumiworx @kimlockhartga @briankrebs
Palantir is also in German police computers in three states and greenlit by the high court despite undeniable issues with German privacy laws.
The neoliberal ex..Black-Rock Chancellor Merz and his Ministers want to expand it to all of Germany.
We are clearly sleeping at the wheel when it comes to choices of voters.

I feel for anyone in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries, which make up ~ 10M jobs and ~ 3 percent of the nation's GDP. From the U.S. International Trade Administration (trade.gov)
"Inbound international travel to the United States plays a vital role in the Nationâs economy and promotes cultural exchange and understanding. Travel and tourism is the largest single services export for the United States, accounting for 22 percent of the countryâs services exports and 7 percent of all exports in 2023. The travel and tourism industry contributed $2.3 trillion to the U.S. economy in 2022 (2.97 percent of the countryâs GDP), supporting 9.5 million jobs."
@briankrebs Stephen Miller's anti-human aggression enforcement hooligans are certainly America's worst ambassadors you could think of.
(Not to mention all of the "Heritage Foundation's Trump regime btw....)

We knew this was coming, but now the clock is running. From Privacy International:
"Yesterday the Trump Administration announced a proposed change in policy for travellers to the U.S. It applies to the powers of data collection by the Customs and Border Police (CBP)."
"If the proposed changes are adopted after the 60-day consultation, then millions of travellers to the U.S. will be forced to use a U.S. government mobile phone app, submit their social media from the last five years and email addresses used in the last ten years, including of family members. Theyâre also proposing the collection of DNA."
PI linked to and summarized a Federal Register entry describing the proposed requirements:
-All visitors must submit âtheir social media from the last 5 yearsâ
-ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) applications will include âhigh value data fieldsâ, âwhen feasibleâ
âtelephone numbers used in the last five yearsâ
-âemail addresses used in the last ten yearsâ
-âfamily number telephone numbers (sic) used in the last five yearsâ
-biometrics â face, fingerprint, DNA, and iris
-business telephone numbers used in the last five years
-business email addresses used in the last ten years.The Federal Register entry says comments are encouraged and
must be submitted (no later than February 9, 2026) to be assured of consideration.Federal Register entry: https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2025-12-10/pdf/2025-22461.pdf
@briankrebs If the #USA wants to become a #PariahState where noone I know can legally enter, then they shure made that happen...
- This is worse than #Russia, #Iran, "P.R." #China, #Afghanistan, #Turkmenistan, #KSA and #NorthKorea combined.
Espechally since the amount of info as well as #Givware demanded is literally Illegal and even if I wanted to I cold not comply because that would nesessitating comitting literal felonies in #Germany!
- If @AuswaertigesAmt doesn't protest and warn against entering the #US as they warn against the nations listed + #Yemen then they basically jist gave up!
-
@sternecker @briankrebs under this proposal, no, it would only be through the immigration process and returning citizens bypass that. I wouldnât put it past them to try that next, but itâs not on the table yet.
-
What's scary is that the Dems have a very poor record when it comes to undoing some of the evil stuff by the Republicans (Patriot Act anyone?)
I reckon whatever happens with the next elections, this is here to stay
@gotofritz @briankrebs my feeling always was that Democrats are smart enough to let Republicans from time to time do what they'd never dare to do and to keep it like this once Republicans kicked themselves out of the White House.
-
@astrokramkiste @briankrebs Well... Mr Trump apparently loved to go extremely deep into private areas... đ«Ł
@ElBeeToots @briankrebs not his only terrible decision, all is going worst

@briankrebs Just stay put. Don't head for America.
