So, my main email provider does not respond to mails to its support email. I didn't even get the usual "here's your ticket number" email.

Phone support is "limited due to personell issues".

    Great.

What's a good, smallish German or European Email provider with a good track record, proper security and all for a handful of email addresses on a custom domain?

    Any recommendations?

@halfbyte I sometimes give half-day tutorials on how to run your own mailserver. It's not as hard as most people think. But of course, not everybody wants or should do it.
It's fun. At least if you don't fear the DNS.

If you want individual support, I happily work together with speedpartner.de since ages. (Hi @sneufeind )

      @ingo_wichmann @sneufeind

I do run my own server already, but I don't really trust that for my main email addresses.

Unfortunately, my current provider has become somewhat flaky.

I'll take a look at your suggestion, thanks!

@halfbyte I'm a big fan of this small hoster: They offer a managed OpenSource-Stack (Mailcow). They update it very regularly. The support is fantastic and the prices are very competitive. https://www.fc-hosting.de/hosting/sogo-groupware-tarife.php

@halfbyte My answer is not immediately helpful but…

I self-host. My provider always responds because it's me. But also unfortunately it's only me so I understand how it can be burdensome.

Despite all the talk on the internet I don't have any issues with deliverability. I get all the emails and all my emails get to both GMail and Outlook and don't get into spam.

I use a “classic" setup with dovecot + postfix and a bunch of other things. It took a bit of time to figure it out, I used a few different howtos to get my setup exactly as I want but there are easier setups. E.g. Stalwart (https://github.com/stalwartlabs/stalwart) which is basically one binary for everything email-related.

I run my mailserver for over a decade. I broke it once or twice but I never though I should find a different provider.

@halfbyte There's also a book about this "classic” setup with all the modern bells and whistles: Run Your Own Mail Server. That is if you don't want to hunt the web for the information.

It's like Mail servers should always have been.

@bitboxer Unfortunately, that is the same provider I have issues with. Just a different (seemingly slighty understaffed) product 😕

@halfbyte I’m with mailbox.org myself and struggling with the support, arcane limitations and the web interface. I’d appreciate a public follow up once you settle on a provider ❤️
