    @furrfu my car has lane assist and I can’t figure out how to turn it off as the default. Really unhelpful on rural roads. ‘Stop beeping at me godamit!’

      @helenclayton Oh, I agree. Our current car has a button to turn it off (which needs to be pressed every time the car starts, but at least it exists), and, before we recently ordered a new electric car, "testing how easy it is to turn off these systems" was the first thing I did...

        @furrfu yes, mine has to be turned off EVERY TIME! I mostly forget this. It should be the other way round imo. Most roads around here are either single carriageways but rough round the edges and you have to hold your breath in when a big vehicle passes, or single track. Lane assist is not helpful and a distraction tbh. I need to find out what happens when I drive it on the continent, as I will be soon!

          @furrfu My car doesn't even have ABS! I guess that puts me in the "I drive but don't use driver aids" category?

            @furrfu
            No.
            I turn them all off, and would only use dumb cruise control while my foot is hovering over the brake.

            When I drive I am responsible for what my car is doing, for the safety of my passengers, and all road users around me.

            If something else is making decisions, I am no longer the driver, and don't want to be responsible for it.

              @furrfu Hidden option. I drive but neither of my cars have any of these horrible "features".

                    @mjr No, I really only wanted to ask about the most "modern" driver aids listed; mostly because I wanted to have an idea of how people treat them when they are available — are people happy to have them, or not?

                    (So far the poll skews to the latter.)

                      @furrfu I mean, I'd love to use a bunch of that, but my 21 year old car is selfishly stopping me.

                        @furrfu I use the first three reluctantly but really glad to have blind spot detection and a backing up camera.

                          If I may follow up here; I was rather specific about which technologies I asked about because I was wonder how people feel about their mandatory inclusion in many modern cars. So these are the options that take over some of the "decisions" of driving. There are of course other more or less useful technologies.

                          I forgot about the internet being the internet, and didn't include old cars, since I figured that was implied by the question. But I can't edit a poll in progress without invalidating it…

                            My car is old so doesn't have these, just basic cruise. If it did I wouldn't use them though.

                                @furrfu I’m actually surprised how quickly my 2016 Prius became an “old car” in that sense. But I’m not complaining.

                                    @furrfu I use cruise control when possible, but it's the one where you set the speed, and it just keeps it. No radar adjustments, no assistance in any other way. So can't really vote.
