    My small wildflower meadow on the allotment is looking quite good this year. It took me about 10 years to get there, starting with planting plugs grown from seed, and sowing a few choice grasses. Later I also introduced yellowrattle. I cut and remove the meadow vegetation every year in September and also some years in late winter. The meadow is used by a great number of insects and other invertebrates including many spiders. #meadow #garden #wildflowers

          @MyWildlifeAllotment
          Looking great. I think it can be harder than people realise to keep a functioning wildflower meadow without it going over to a few dominant species, especially if you do it from seed with the premade mixes.

                @MostlyTato Yes that is true. You need a bit of understanding how meadows work and are managed. Also many cheaper mixes just have a few common species and even worse some have aggressive grasses which take over. Also when sown onto normal garden soil it is difficult to make it work. I impoverished the soil and it shows now as everything stays quite small and delicate species have a chance.
