This blows a hole in the all or nothing argument against solar fields on agricultural land.

But Im sure all the whiny snowflakes in Alberta will no doubt find another stupid reason to hate renewables.

Silicon Ranch's Tennessee solar farm is now a working cattle ranch, with moving panels that allow cows to graze while generating clean power.

@sleepy62 Hmm .., Solar on agricultural land, the issue will turn when drought become too severe to grow, combined with loss of hydro power?

Will big expanses of land with sun become primarily solar power and growing things secondary, or dependent on shade from panels?

@sleepy62 they hate it because it's renewable and stinkless. Mark my herds

@Tooden this! I've seen accounts of tomatoes and hop doing great under solarfarms. Also beehives and flowers

@pinhman @sleepy62 taking energy away from reaching the grounds (by generating electricity or if it) will reduce evaporation and with that delay drought. Solar panels are helping here.

@KFvMalssen @sleepy62 I’m just imagining a situation when drought is so severe that growing is impossible, or at least no longer profitable and/or subsidized.

In western Canada at least, gov’t funded crop insurance gives farmers money when drought causes failure.

We’re subsidizing (in Canada) not solving a problem.

So many current practices work against doing both ag & solar. Will the issue become so extreme that rural agriculture is just abandoned for power generation?
