@ADignorantium I was about to say "say what you like about Grand Moff Tarkin, at least he had some class. You wouldn't catch him wearing weirdly inappropriate clothes, like jeans in the gym." Then I remembered the slippers.
(For those who don't know, any time you see Cushing on screen he's wearing his slippers because the boots they got him were too small. They just shot him above the knees.)

@ADignorantium He had very big feet, apparently - they'd have had to get them made specially, but by the time wardrobe found out they had nothing in stock that would fit it was too late. So he crammed himself into them for a few shots where they couldn't avoid shooting him full length (which must have been really uncomfortable), and wore the slippers as much as possible.
