Many people relate to others by sharing a similar experience. This is especially common in autistic individuals, leading to the phrase “autistic relating”. Also common is that when this happens, the other person thinks the first is comparing the two or trying to take attention away, and that's not what they're doing. So the second person, not understanding what's happening, may invalidate the first person's experience with hurtful words such as “I had it worse,” “That's not the same at all,” “No one cares what you think.”
To everyone that has ever encountered this confusion and hurt: thank you for sharing. I'm happy that you did.
