    @ApostateEnglishman @Ann1944 there’s a lot of great disco music and I’ll die on that hill.

    @lerxst @Ann1944 I was surprised - although not particularly surprised, as once you hear it you can't unhear it! - that a lot of Dave Grohl's drumming in his Nirvana days was inspired by disco beats. So there's that...

    Anyway, it was more the sheer incongruence of the inclusion of "disco" in a list of truly awful things, that led to my joke. Of course there's a lot of great disco music. I mean if Le Freak by Chic doesn't make you wanna put on some oversized shades and start moving, what will?!

        @ApostateEnglishman @Ann1944 the first LP I bought with my own money was the “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” soundtrack. The first 8-track I bought with my own money was “C’est Chic”. Nile Rodgers is a legend and one of my all-time favorite guitarists.

                  None of these greedy bastards ever seen to stop and see all this. And to see and understand even a little what chronic poverty for others might feel like.

                    @Ann1944 Let me tell you man i went to church today with my family and the hate from some people in church is outrageous. What is the reason people go to church???? To learn about God peace and love but this church people full of hate and why are you here among us. We sold our house few years ago and we use to go to the church in our way and now we are one hour away so we decided to go to the church near us about 1 mile but that was a serious mistake. Not 2 or 3 people but a number of them.

                      I was just thinking about this yesterday as I went to bed. I got to see the pinnacle — which I consider the moon landing — and then the fall of America in my lifetime.

                        @govinda_hari @Ann1944 sure wish the US let everyone vote, but unfortunately the prosecution for possession of small amounts of eminently plantable substances means the US police get to decide who in their community keeps their right to vote and who loses it to felony charges.

                        Also anyone who mails a ballot gets their shit challenged, and the challenge process often takes longer than the election.

                              @Ann1944 the riots following the police beating of Rodney King showed how fragile the situation was in the US. 45-47 AND his henchpeople (some scary smart, some dumb) have exploited that fragility and released the inner thug in half the population.

                                @Ann1944 I've lived in Israel since 1970. I've versed myself in the history of the world and of my people as much as I could.

                                The only era remotely comparable to what is happening today here (in Israel) and (from what I read) in the US and across most of the world, are the mid-to-late 1930's. The differences are of course many, but the similarities just cannot be ignored.

                                I'm terrified of what this makes of us and where this is leading us.

                                    @DavidPenington @Ann1944

                                    That was bad, but something we could have recovered from if it had been a one-time thing. But Citizens United permanently gave the super rich a political tool to bend everything their way. It was all downhill from there.

                                      Also, FWIW? The 2001 decision to hand the presidency to Bush wasn't a cut-and-dried thing and was something our electoral system wasn't prepared to handle. The number of votes in question was *under* the margin of error. So each side kept insisting on recounts hoping the error would tip their way. Then the winning side wanted to stop the count.

                                      The honorable thing to do would've been for Bush to concede because Gore won the popular vote. Didn't happen, of course.

                                        NOTE: I lost a friendship from pointing out the margin of error thing and opining that something had to be done – even if I didn't like what *was* done. Because not everyone understands math and statistics.
