I’m curious. For those of you who run your own media server, please pick your **primary** server **for your own use**.

If you use something other than the three listed here, feel free to reply.

@caseyliss I'm currently running Plex and Jellyfin in parallel, mostly because I just don't understand what Plex is doing these days. They aren't really shipping new features but the app gets updated? They took out music and photos and now they're putting them back? Plex just has kind of a weird little smell right now that makes me think it's wise to be running an alternative in parallel.

@caseyliss Used to have plex but switched to Jellyfin when I wanted to add remote access. It is working well enough that I will stick with it unless something changes.

@caseyliss Long time Plex user. I keep trying alternatives from time to time, but for now, I find the Plex tvOS app to be the more intuitive and stable one of them all.

@caseyliss Currently investigating this for myself. Plex is where I started, but I was quickly redirected to Jellyfin.

@caseyliss If it wouldn’t be blocked at Hetzner I’d run Plex, but now I’m using Jellyfin which is find but the apps (Especially tvOS) are not there yet.

@caseyliss I like it to be available on all devices, to non-technical family members who I don’t live with - so Plex without question.

@caseyliss Plex on Synology but playback via Infuse cos for some unfindable reason, Plex says the (gigabit Ethernet!) connection to the 4K ATV is “too slow to play this content” even for 720p h265 files. Infuse has no issues. So weird. Gave up debugging years ago. Luckily Infuse syncs with Plex libraries.

@caseyliss Plex currently, but starting to look for alternatives as it becomes worse release by release.

@caseyliss I use SMB file sharing and then the client that I primarily use, Kodi (formerly XBMC) does its own content management. It doesn't sync across devices because each client is independent, but since I only use it with the one device it's perfect for me.

I would use Plex, but it doesn't have features I consider must-have. Like the ability to retime audio sync while playing back. Or automatic display of Forced subtitles while subtitles are disabled. (Plex wants you to turn on a separate subtitle track that only has the forced subtitles in it, Kodi looks for Forced subtites in the normal subtitle track and displays them. Much more "Just Works" for me.)

@caseyliss Jellyfin + Infuse. I mention because technically Infuse doesn’t need a media server back end as it can manage libraries directly from a file share.
