With all the tiktok drama I have been telling people Mastodon is still here and kicking!!

@sidereal @brandonscript @taylorlorenz That's fair. More *real* engagement rather than hundreds or thousands of bot-likes. I'd agree with that.

With all the tiktok drama I have been telling people Mastodon is still here and kicking!! I love this app and I really think the decentralized model is the best for social media.
Still, people don’t want to join! What do you think Mastodon’s biggest barriers are to courting new users? What could be done to improve the product and grow the user base in a positive way?
-
@taylorlorenz stop letting the geeks and admins do PR. Nobody cares about platform details, or philosophy. (Well, the ones who do are already here).
Make a way for non-tech users talk about their *social* experience here to unhappy users on other platforms.

@print Sure, you *can*, but what we're talking about is bringing more people in to Mastodon, and something automatic, something one-touch, user-friendly is how you do that: make the default Mastodon "app" a web app, installable like an app.
There are thousands of recent new users here in the Fediverse.
The problem isn't an app.
The problem is not an app.
The problem is no body is talking to them.
The actual social part of social media.

@bitpickup @andyinabox @taylorlorenz Yeah, it did:
"The fact that influencer like you refuse to setup their own instances."
@OrionKidder
No it didn't:
"Provokative wording creates engagement with the content."Also @taylorlorenz isn't someone new like to say "from the start".
The argument as from the get go is about how to:
> courting new users
> improve the product
> grow the user base -
@IveyJanette @bitpickup @NickGates @futurebird @taylorlorenz I think I need to get off soon if it's true that they welcomed ICE and Trump. That said, I'm hearing that that might have been faked, so I have to look into it more closely.
@OrionKidder @bitpickup @NickGates @futurebird @taylorlorenz In any event,I've blocked them.

@aysc This post is sent to the complete Fediverse, shoiuld I write "stay out of the fediverse"? No, I see a great fortune in the fediverse, and that you can convince a lot of people to come here by shownig them the oportunitys. People understand that it is not another app, but a complete real network. It is a possibility to show people that are not loocking for a X replacement, that there is peertube and pixelfeed and friendica. Why do you want to keep your network mastodon only?
@sven222 Nothing was said about the Fediverse in the original post. Again, stay out of the conversation, and don’t try to insert yourself into ones that don’t apply to you.

And yet folks spend inordinate amounts of time and effort on SEO and complex strategies to spoof the algorithms to promote their content.
@mastodonmigration @taylorlorenz algorithms are w new god...
and no one knows the paths of god [or somehow similar]
Google earns money from ads - but algorithms stay hidden - so that's sort of play where only one player knows the rules. Funny - but truth. -

@aysc Yes sir! Mister officer, I will do like you told me! You know, that is the point where I'm thinking if you realy belive in what you say, or if you are just looking for some kind of argument? But I don't care, I just finish with an old word from the usenet: PLONK -
@taylorlorenz I'm finding it hard to understand how it all works. I just fumble around hoping I'm not doing something disastrous.
@Rick_d_card Hey dear 🥰

1. @bitpickup I originally thought your statement applied to influencers new to the fediverse (migrating from another platform), but it seems like you specifically meant established fediverse influencers
2. Much of what I wrote still applies to the position that established fedi influencers are obligated to run their own instances
3. If you're not trolling it certainly comes off that way, so you might want to pay more attention to the tone of your posts

@taylorlorenz I think the biggest problem is lack of a good marketing budget.
Ideally you would have some folks behind Mastodon doing a bit of a Press tour. When I think back to why I joined Twitter in 2011, the likes of Stephen Colbert, John Stewart, etc played a big role. I don't know if this happens much now? I don't really hear a lot about the Fediverse outside of the Fediverse. -

@taylorlorenz imho the traditional media are obstructing it : in Belgium, the journalists I talked to (national) are just ignoring it still saying "there is no alternative from EU", they don't want to dive into it, understand the fediverse concept, or just dismissing it bc "there is nobody there".
They don't understand it's a self fulfilling prophecy they make
